@xianc78 hey this actually got me thinking - if western and northern europe industrialized significantly sooner, and common gun ownership was introduced there long before other areas of the world, wouldn't you expect a certain natural eugenic process to have taken place relating to criminality (i.e. criminal tries to commit murder -> gets shot, doesn't pass on genes which predispose toward criminal action)?

Tend to agree. There are lots of differences between Honduras and Switzerland. If Honduras adopted Switzerland's gun laws you wouldn't immediately stop having all the murder.
