I will never get over the fact that people (including grown men) literally cried over this trailer for a remake of a game that they can already play.

@xianc78 with modern agenda changes and not even looking much better than the original. slap some hd textures on that bitch and you're good.

@beardalaxy Isn't the whole modern agenda thing just Vivan being trans, which was already present in the Japanese version of the original game?

@beardalaxy I wonder if the original devs knew what transgender even is when designing the original character.

@xianc78 well you had a random level art designer for the original metroid saying that Samus was trans (newhalf in Japan) so I'm pretty sure they knew. Vivian isn't ever referred to as such, just referred to as a young boy in his bio, but gets annoyed when people call him a boy. My guess is that there is a level of nuance that is missed when viewed through a modern lens, especially as English speakers.

I just get the feeling, much with the Silent Hill 2 remake, that it's a bunch of people disconnected from the original creation trying to pick apart knowledge of what the original intent was to mold it around what they want to do with the game. Like some Japanese writer has a fixation on trannies and wanted to shove it in there more prominently this time around, and then of course US localizers will be all over that shit too.

I'm not really too fond of putting trans characters or other complex ideas like that in games meant for children, either. Especially when we have parents who don't really give a shit what their kids are doing so they just end up asking about it in a random discord server or Roblox and get groomed and troon out. Then again, I guess when they remake games from 20 years ago the target demographic for said game has shifted dramatically.

It's also just fatigue of this shit being pushed all the time and in the most annoying and degrading (or sometimes just flat out evil) ways possible. I bet if the remake came out two years from now that would have been scrapped due to how the social climate is shifting. Or maybe not... I'm willing to bet that the ttyd superfans either fully support that shit or at the very least are fine with it. And they'll screech about not censoring their beloved trans character in a kids' game but if a female character shows a bit too much skin in a rated M game it's "for the male gaze" and it's a massive controversy worth putting out felony death threats for.

So at the end of the day that's why I don't really give a shit. It's probably fetishized culture war bullshit from a game I really don't care about with an online community that's retarded and chased away the only cool guy. I'll have my opinion that it's modern agenda pushing regardless.

I don't know what else it could be. Was she an actual (biological) female mistaken for male at birth? Did she somehow changed biological sex at some point in her life? Was she too tomboyish that she was called a male by her peers? I never played the game. I only know about it through DYKGaming.

A lot of people think that Japanese media has always been socially conservative, but when you really look at it, they were including subtle LGBT themes before the west embraced it. Most of it was just removed during localization. Phantasy Star II had a piano teacher that was heavily implied to be gay, but his dialogue was butchered in the NA release. One of the DS Harvest Moon games had same-sex marriage in the Japanese version. Phoenix Wright apparently had some gay chef whose lines were altered in international releases.

Maybe it could just be that the Japanese being somewhat more open to sexual themes in otherwise family-friendly content meant that they could sneak in some (implied) LGBT characters in their media.

I think it would still be the same result if it was released two years later. This IS the type of game that attracts the autistic, trans/enby, terminally online types. I've been told that the Mario RPG games attract A LOT of trannies, which should be obvious because they are clearly the most autistic RPGs you'll ever come across.

And I don't think transgenderism will go back to being underground anytime soon. Trump promising to ban HRT and SRS for minors and AOC removing pronouns from her bio (implying that Democrats are throwing trannies under the bus) means jack shit. We don't know what is actually going to happen. If anything, I see states attempting to nullify any laws being passed kind of like how many states nullify federal raw milk bans. Illinois is already planning to do that.
