With the recent-ish cock.li situation along with previous events surrounding it and Fedora Mail, I don't think I can trust email services run by a single guy anymore, especially if they target the imageboard crowd and/or use meme domains.

I think I'm going to use Posteo for now on. They same to go out of their way to respect user-privacy despite being for-profit and being payed means that it is less likely to be used for some bomb-threat or something like that (hopefully).

@xianc78 What happened at fedora.mail? I only saw it was always closed, and they may have recently reopened invitations.
Aside for it being connected to the post userbase, what gives?

But, in every case, I wouldn't use any of those mails for anything *respectable*. Just find a smaller but privacy conscious provider for general-purpose, and a dedicated service for *Internet friends*, maybe even spin your own for the latter

@vokainen099 Fedora Mail had it's registrations permanently closed for over a year now because someone made a throw away account to send a bomb threat. I think @j could open an account if you ask him though.

@xianc78 @j Oh, that was why it was closed.
But they recently may have reopened, it seems it was green again, although I didn't bother to check, don't need it for now
@j @xianc78 Just don't get yourself sued/arrested, you never know in those times we live in :aaaaaa:

Also skill issue I literally use zerglingman@fedora.email on my resume.
If my ISP ever gets off their ass and fixes rdns I will swap it to my own server though.
@Zergling_man @xianc78 I originally found out about it because I ended up on the poast instance webpage, and there was a link to "other services", which eventually led me to it (I think it was poast, at least. Maybe I should recheck. It was anyway on something it was connected to the darkfedi, before the term fell out of use).
With the way search engines are, you don't get to find things easily anymore

For the rest, more power to you. I just wrote what I would do, personally. I've known employers whose mails simply do not land if you aren't on some mainstream services, and their it department is oblivious to it (Probably whatever block list they use and forgot)
@vokainen099 @xianc78 That's not "connected to" though.
It's run by @j, the same guy who ran neckbeard.xyz/bae.st, and graf is friends with him (I think), so I guess graf decided to mention it as an option to his users.
@Zergling_man @xianc78 @j "Connected" as in "(legally) connected", i. e. run by people sharing content as in a private chat.
It doesn't matter it's not the same physical infrastructure, people would tell you it's basically the same as poast due to federation of content

Edit: clarified the post, was thinking of something else and in my mind forgot that baest actually existed as a differing entity. Haven't had my monster. Sorry for mishaps.
@Zergling_man @xianc78 @j Hey man, I know, it's a bit like saying that the fedi and bluesky are the same just because they somewhat federate, but people (Average joes, minda) on average don't kinda grasp the concept of federated content, and maybe you wouldn't want others to know you are on a place that federates content, since they can get wrong impressions

That's all I was saying

@Zergling_man @vokainen099 Yeah. I have a firstname-lastname cock.li email with one of the few SFW domains they had. I've applied to jobs with it among other things and nobody ever batted a single eye, except for my Dad who told me to delete it and use Gmail instead.

@beardalaxy Cock.li got hacked due to an exploit that was recently found in RoundCube (their webmail software). It's still usable through desktop mail clients though, but that service has gone through so many security breaches and legal trouble (mostly due to VC's incompetence, and the services targeted audience) that I don't think it's trustworthy mail service outside of throw away accounts anymore.
