I don't know what to say about conservatives embracing cancel culture. You may argue that these leftists deserve the taste of their own medicine, but I don't think it's going to stop at Charlie Kirk.

This wouldn't be the first time conservatives embraced cancel culture either. I think Ben Shapiro is known for calling people to cut ties to people he doesn't like which is ironic coming from someone who is prominent in the "anti-woke" movement.

My only concern is that many of these conservatives consider you to be on the side of antifa if you are critical of the US military or at least America's military overreach and I can see many people losing their jobs because some conservative accused them of shitting on American troops.

@magicalthinking @xianc78 this. the right of 2025 is not the right of the desert storm era or even earlier. the right has essentially swallowed the entirety of classical liberalism at this point.

@beardalaxy @magicalthinking We all know that neocons will be the ones doing the cancelling.

@xianc78
I agree but this was always going to happen.
You'll notice that many of those complaining about these cancellations wouldn't have been in favor of labor protections for speech prior to this incident.
I wrote this up last time this happened, but I think this time around there's a lot more support for retaliation instead of solutions.

@gabriel @xianc78
For free speech?
Bruh, I was full on Star Trekian liberal. I believed that boarders and racism were all just a retarded ape shit, that could be civilized out of people in a 15 minute speech.

I really was like that. BLM proved me wrong, and I kept listening to their arguments ever since.

@gabriel @xianc78
ALSO!!!
i use the Star Trekian as a joke descriptor, since it does seem to cover the entire opinion group, BUT I realize, that the qorld view is considered so retarded today, that not even Star Trek is using it anymore :blobhang:

@xianc78
Demons lost the moral high hround 15 years ago. I could see you arguing this when I was in uni, but I have been dealing with that shit for literally half of my life by now.

@LukeAlmighty My biggest concern is right-wingers cancelling other right-wingers for not being in the same camp. I could see neocons cancelling right-wingers who are critical of America's military overreach for example.

@xianc78 @LukeAlmighty they've done this since August 2017
"Here's why this right wing group is feds btw"
@xianc78 Striking someone first is wrong, at least when they aren't actually immediately threatening you. Retaliating and defending yourself after being struck by an aggressor is righteous. Standing there and letting someone kick you in the nuts over and over without striking back doesn't make you noble or principled, it makes you a sucker.

It's simple. This is game theory. The one that breaks the accepted rules of the game, betrays and hurts you in order to gain a temporary advantage has displayed their dangerous and treacherous nature. Such a person must be punished, otherwise they will continue to betray and endanger you for the foreseeable future.

There has to be a reckoning. They must be made to pay for what they did. They have proven they can not be reasoned with, so they must feel sufficient pain so they do not do this again.

@Charles_in_Charge But given that in-fighting and purity spiraling is inevitable in any political camp, it's just going to lead to right-wingers cancelling each other. That's my main concern. I don't care about leftists who have been cancelling the right for over a decade now.

@xianc78 The left's purity spiral is a relatively new phenomena. What they have been very good at for a long time is the "no enemies to the left" tactic. This allowed the more moderate lefties to essentially give cover to their more radical members.

It's your radicals that provide the energy for the movement. They are your organizers, the protestors, the people who come up with new ideas and push them until they eventually enter the mainstream. Your radicals push the Overton Window in your desired direction, bit by bit.

The problem the left ran into was that their radicals adopted a weird race/sex/identify based neo-Maoist philosophy, and so went insane. The right's radicals are a mixture of Pat Buchannan, populism, and internet merry pranksters. The left's long term goal was the erasure of white people and the destruction of Western society. The radical right's long term goal is to role back society to something like it was circa 1960.

Besides, it's always a good thing to oppress and remove commies. Commies are to a society what cancer is to the human body. No one likes chemo, but if you don't use it you will be eaten alive by tumors. Commies do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. They do not deserve a fair hearing. They do not deserve all the leeway you would give a normal citizen. They are agents of destruction, period.
