Remember when Tumblr said tha they were joining the Fediverse? What ever happened with that?
@xianc78 I... Don't know. Maybe they are using the technology but are just a walled garden? There's no point to it then.
@beardalaxy I think they are owned by the same company that owns WordPress.com and WordPress now has opt-in federation. I don't know why Tumblr doesn't. Maybe they are afraid that they will get the same reaction Threads got.
@xianc78 does threads federate with the wider fediverse or is it more like a bluesky thing where you can spin up your own bluesky instance but they can only ever talk to each other?
@beardalaxy I think they federate with everyone outside of a few servers that are really "bad" (instances like Poast and DRC), but most instances block Threads due to concerns about Meta trying to EEE the fedi.
