Why are you lying game devs?
Do you think I'm stupid?
Do you think anyone is that stupid?

I am new in the game, and I drive around. And I see other cars with NAMES AND LEVELS above them.... driving the speed limit, and holding to the road.

No human drives like that in a hub of a racing game.

@LukeAlmighty are you talking about forza? because yeah, they're just AI cars that use the profile of real players, including the way their cars look.

@LukeAlmighty btw i hated forza, it's what made me go and play hot wheels lol

@beardalaxy @LukeAlmighty I hate that modern racing games use tethering. It's not a race if I can't lap my opponent, it's just bullshit.

@Jazzy_Butts @beardalaxy @LukeAlmighty forza 2 was a great time.

sounds to me like you haven't played gran turismo on ps1 WITHOUT the fancy driving wheel and pedal controller, if you're bitching about an aspect this benign.
@Jazzy_Butts @LukeAlmighty @beardalaxy was referring more to the part about complaining about AI cars in the open world.

but tethering is just.... it's been a part of arcade racing since people still played racing games at arcades. that's honestly one of the main differences between an arcade-style racing game and a full-on simulation like GT was.

forza is... it's always been a more realistic arcade racer. Need for Speed was pure arcade until open world cities became popular, and I'll still tout that series as the best racing games.

@Jazzy_Butts @bitterblossom @LukeAlmighty i like arcade racers way more, they have always felt way smoother to control and that's the thing i like the most in my video games. fuck realism, i want to be able to drift by pushing one button and have it feel satisfying as fuck.

i think racing sims, or games that are adjacent to that, are much better played with a wheel and pedals, not a controller.

@beardalaxy @bitterblossom @LukeAlmighty I like all that too, but for me it's even more satisfying in a sim, I actually don't play simulators very often because they are so frustrating without the gear you mentioned, and I don't have it

@Jazzy_Butts @bitterblossom @LukeAlmighty i also don't like how a lot of sims let you customize every single fucking aspect of the car, it's really overwhelming and always makes me feel like i'm not doing something right or i could be tweaking something better to the point where i may as well just look up a guide or use someone else's build instead of doing it myself because i have no idea what the hell is going on.

but i know there are people who love the fuck out of cars who probably REALLY enjoy being able to do all of that and like the way the handling feels, so that's good for them. just not for me :) i wanna go fast and kick ass.

@Jazzy_Butts @LukeAlmighty define "modern" because racing games have been doing this forever. mario kart on the snes and mario kart 64 are two of the biggest examples of rubber banding ai in racing games.

idk if i saw any of that in forza, but i didn't play it for very long. it seemed less focused on racing against other vehicles and more focused on just getting good times, though.

@Jazzy_Butts @LukeAlmighty it is actually one of the worst rubberbanding racing games ever lol, if you're in first place they can go faster than using a star powerup to overtake you. i think you may be able to lap an AI that's in last place or even 7th, but 2nd and 3rd will be right there with you the whole time.
