Linux development still depending so much on Linus Torvalds' leadership scares me, even more than what Microsoft is doing with Windows.
With the current political environment, when Linus finally retires (or dies), if he's replacement isn't basically a clone of Torvalds himself, Linux is ripe for a potential collapse.
@coffee
Here's the thing though, if the main Linux branch doesn't manage to find someone with principles, a backbone, and the technical competence to replace Linus Torvalds, why the hell should I trust that anyone trying to do a major Linux fork actually has the qualities necessary? If they did, I imagine they would have taken over the leadership of the main branch.
@alyx@gameliberty.club I have thought about this exact thing before.
@alyx@gameliberty.club maybe BSD was always the way
@alyx This will probably be the event that creates the divide. Linux will just fork itself and go on under many different names.
@alyx with #linux you can #fork and keep the work going.
With #Microsoft / #Windows ... You can't
That's the big difference
