@rasterman crazy how mk8 is still selling so many copies. Good fucking game.

@beardalaxy Unstoppable. I wouldn't mind some games, like Smash or Mario Kart, to be rolling release instead of having to remake the game every time. Nowadays it's not like we're missing out on improved graphics.

@rasterman some people were complaining about mk8's dlc, saying they wished we just got a new game instead.

meanwhile i'm sittin here like... $25 for 48 tracks? literally double the amount that's in the game right now? and we're getting new characters on top of that? how can anybody complain?

the game is already so fuckin good, easily the best mario kart imo. i will certainly take more of a good thing rather than risk getting a new thing that isn't as good.

The only thing I have to complain about is that the new tracks and characters won't see a physical release but that's an industry wide problem and not something to dump just at Nintendo's feet. I have the same problem with Xenoblade Chronicle 3's DLC along with just about every other non-AAA game.

@SapientPearwood @rasterman that's a fair point, and something i've never really thought of before. the only DLC that really has had physical releases are things like PC game expansions back in the day.

True. Every once in a while we get a surprise like Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country but that is incredibly rare and a thing of the past sadly.

@SapientPearwood @rasterman I think iceborne for monster hunter world had a physical release too right?

I mean, there is a small chance that mk8 gets another physical release with all of the content once it's done, since it's not out yet entirely. Maybe alongside whatever the next iteration of the switch is.

I totally forgot that a lot of games used to have "complete collection" editions that came with all the DLC too. The issue is that games barely fit on discs anymore and some of them flat out aren't even using them these days.

I remember a recent MH game getting some kind of physical release for DLC but I can't remember which MH game it wad that got it.

I have very low hopes that they'll release a new version and even lower hopes that they'll follow in the Switch form factor for their next generation console. Nintendo is well known for being retarded and following insanely successful consoles up with trash fires. They've already said they don't plan on following the Switch up with another hybrid portable/home console. Maybe they'll change their minds and release something like a Steam Deck/Aya Neo/GPD Win/ROG Ally/whatever other handheld PC instead of whatever they have in mind. The market is clearly clamoring for handhelds, we have waited all our lives to get handhelds that can play AAA games on the go and Nintendo would be retarded to ignore that but they have done even dumber things.

It's 50/50 on whether the "Complete Collection/Remaster/Ultimate/whatever" edition of games gets released physically. Some do and some just get updated store pages where the only version you can buy anymore is the complete version. It gives them a reason to charge full price again. I wish they'd keep releasing games on disc but they make more money by letting Sony/Microsoft/Valve host the game digitally.

The reason it takes multiple disc's now is partially due to them not compressing the game files very well if at all. There was a recent AAA game, I want to say it was The Last of Us but it may have been something else, that when released on PC got tons of shit for an insanely huge download. When people finally finished the download they noticed that NOTHING in the game files had been compressed. Not the cutscenes, not the music, nothing at all. Even with that though they could still fit most games on a single disc if they wanted to.

They make blank 100GB blu ray discs, called BDXL, that are available to the public for $10 per blank disc. They could be had more cheaply by game developers if they truly wanted their massive game to be on one disc. The problem is they don't want people to have physical copies, they claim it stops piracy, and don't want to spend the extra couple of bucks to press games.
@SapientPearwood @Rasterman @beardalaxy Well, the Mario Kart 8 DLC did end up becoming part of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's base physical version. I'm sure at least some of the current DLC tracks will be part of Mario Kart 9 on the Switch 2, I just don't know how many of them (I assume most, if not all these new ones WILL make it tho).

Torna actually got a physical release, so there might be a chance that Future Redeemed could get it to. However, Torna got a physical version very early, so maybe that ship has already sailed.
If memory serves Torna got a physical release from the beginning, didn't it? I could swear I remember being surprised by physical editions in stores day 1 and being mad I bought it digitally. Maybe in crazy though.

That's why I think the new Mario tracks won't get a physical release though, they've already released the game fully once and I just don't see them doing it again. Hopefully I am wrong though!
@beardalaxy Yeah, imagine they make a new Mario Kart now. People would be reasonable to expect it to have every feature MK8 had; but it doesn't sound realistic, knowing what we expect.

A new Smash? Will everyone be there? Can we go back to not having Snake in the game? Will Nintendo negotiate with every one once again for a new Smash? Why not make it rolling release and charge for new content like they already did?

Or the way they knee-capped Mario Maker 2. A game with infinite content for players and creators that people watch. If instead of free updates, they had paid DLC, they could keep the game alive and relevant while also making a profit, which I'm guessing the lack thereof is why they killed the game after one year.
@Rasterman @beardalaxy To be fair, I'm slightly relieved they stopped with the new Smash Ultimate characters before they did something REALLY stupid, like adding Tracer or a Soyny character. Sora being the dumbest character added isn't that bad overall.
@ChristiJunior @beardalaxy Overwatch? The game that lost 80% of its player base and the second game looks worse? I'm not sure we need to worry about that; but infinite DLC with someone who gives a shit at the helm (like Sakurai, despite his Sora ball-washing) would mean we get reasonably good content. I.e.: the opposite of Fortnite.

@ChristiJunior @rasterman lol you think sora is the dumbest character added? not fucking STEVE? xD

@beardalaxy @Rasterman I used to hate Steve in Smash, but I've kinda changed my mind about him. He is super unique and creative, and some of his alts aren't even that hideous.

Sora is just such a fucking faggot with a shit design - I can't understand how people give Rex shit for his design when Sora exists. Also, the way Squeenix handled putting the Kingdom Hearts games on the Switch was disgusting.

@ChristiJunior @rasterman if only you knew the plague that is steve xD dude is banned from tournaments because of invincible, immediately actionable tech.

i'll agree that the kh games being streaming only though is fucking retarded, the switch can definitely run those things.

@beardalaxy @Rasterman I haven't followed competitive Smash much the last year, but I do know that Steve is the best character in the game, and broken (fuck all those faggots who spent so much time whining about Pyra/Mythra, who's not even a top 3 character). That said, Sora is also boring as hell to watch most of the time, and Sonic is more cancerous than either of them (I hope Sonix forever ruins his hands and is forced to retire).

KH3 being streaming-only is understandable I guess. I'm sure the Switch could handled a downgraded port (it handled the likes of No Man Sky, Witcher 3, Nier Automata and the current gen Doom games fine), but I can forgive Squeenix taking the easy route (and KH3 apparently isn't very good anyway).

KH1 and KH2 being streaming-only? Fuck you Squeenix! 🖕
@ChristiJunior >tfw played Smash competitively once
>never again after I learned what a lot of the smash community is like.
@beardalaxy @Rasterman

@zoomgoboom @ChristiJunior @rasterman i love competitive smash but the community is gay as fuck. i left it right before the shitstorm that was 2020 and i'm glad i did.

@beardalaxy @ChristiJunior That's just a problem for nigger pædophiles (i.e. the competitive Smash community in the USA). Steve brings unique features to the game. Like building. And racism. Mostly racism. Steve is the man. The Aryan man. :sonnenrad_deathhead:
@ChristiJunior @beardalaxy What? You don't want to pay $60 to rent a game over the Internet?

Yeah, Rex's suit is terrible. I could hardly believe my eyes when Link put on the costume in BotW; then I played the actual game (100%'d) and was aghast at such awful design. Sora is a human Mickey Mouse. It might sound like less of a put down; but it's the most hurtful thing I can think of. Also, every other character from that franchise I've seen looks the fucking same to him.
@beardalaxy Sora fits the character trope of "fucking useless twink with plot armor" and I hate him. @ChristiJunior @Rasterman
remember that donald gets this appearance at one point in KH
@beardalaxy @ChristiJunior Steve is the White man's character. The spirit of Hyperborea resides within him. :sonnenrad_white: Adding Hitler himself would've been less of a nod to White nationalists. :hitler:
@beardalaxy @Rasterman I just wish the new tracks were visually consistent with the base game tracks, on some of them you can really tell that they were just ripped from a mobile game.
@Blouie @Rasterman @beardalaxy Yeah, they're quite a step down visually, and just too cartoony, even by Mario Kart standards. That also goes for a number of the remade old tracks.

Some Tour tracks like the Ninja one and the Ice Cream look amazing tho.
@ChristiJunior @Blouie @beardalaxy I never bought the new DLC tracks; but I go online and piggyback on the people who did so I get to play them anyway. :0380:
@Rasterman @Blouie @beardalaxy The first update didn't actually make the DLC tracks available for regular online play, either because of an oversight, or to prevent people from doing what you're doing. They did give up on that fairly quickly tho.
@ChristiJunior @Blouie @beardalaxy I want to buy it; but I don't play nearly enough MK8 to justify the purchase.

Not buying the NSO+ is a matter of principle, however. :0390:
@Rasterman @Blouie @beardalaxy NSO+ is a fucking scam. You'll be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of the N64 than me, so when I refused to buy it you KNOW it's a shit deal.
@ChristiJunior @Blouie @beardalaxy I would've bet anything you bought it day one. :doge_laugh:

Now I'm really surprised.
@Rasterman @Blouie @beardalaxy Check my 20 most recently played games, it's not there.

You could go back 100 games, and you still wouldn't find it. They'd have to put something like Castlevania 64 on it for me to fold.
@Rasterman @ChristiJunior @beardalaxy I don't own 8 deluxe but the new stuff looks really fun, I love all the new characters.
@beardalaxy @Rasterman The MK8 engine is excellent, and the graphics are still among the best on the Switch. The problem is that the number of brand new tracks will always be limited when it's DLC-only, whereas a Mario Kart 9 would AT LEAST have boasted 16 brand new tracks, more likely something like 24 new ones, given the new standards set by recent entries.
@ChristiJunior @beardalaxy Ever played The Sims? Have you seen how EA handled each new version? By the end of The Sims 2, characters could open their own businesses. When The Sims 3 launched there were "stuff packs" to sell you a new chair with micro-transactions.

I don't trust Nintendo to be better than EA when it comes to being greedy jews.
@Rasterman @beardalaxy Nintendo has so far made their DLC worth the money, and yet not essential for having fun with the base game.

They save that kind of scumminess for the mobile games, Mario Kart Tour is apparently really vile, and Fire Emblem Heroes has also gotten quite nasty in terms of Pay To Win/Pay for features that SHOULD be part of the base game.
@ChristiJunior @Rasterman @beardalaxy Actually kind of based for them to view mobile gamers as retarded Untermenschen to be shamelessly milked while assuming console owners want decent quality.
@ArdainianRight @Rasterman @beardalaxy They initially tried to have standards even for mobile games:

https://www.gamesindustry.biz/nintendo-reportedly-asks-mobile-partners-to-stop-players-from-spending-so-much

but apparently later on decided that those guys really were just niggercattle paypigs.
@ChristiJunior @beardalaxy I get it; but what I was more concerned about was that MK8 has so much content, that I doubt a new MK9 would start with all that was in the previous game; but I also don't think it's unreasonable to ask for what was already there.

A friend got into FE Heroes a bit too much and then had to delete it from his phone 'cause he found himself playing even as people were trying to hold a conversation with him. You could say he has an addictive personality. :pepe_feelsweird:
@Rasterman @ChristiJunior @beardalaxy they'd have to mark the games their equiveilant to AO because of gambling.
@justnormalkorean @ChristiJunior @beardalaxy I suspected that might be it. What a dose of reality.

"It's just gambling?"

*astronaut points a gun at his back*
@beardalaxy @Rasterman They could have put in a bit more effort into the textures of the mobile tracks, but the devs were working dring covid so that makes sense why they're not as good.

@justnormalkorean @rasterman honestly i never cared about the graphics of the tracks, they look fine to me. i care WAY more about the track layouts, of which most are pretty good and i like the way the tour tracks change with each lap.
