@noyoushutthefuckupdad The point is that you don't need raytracing to simulate realistic reflections.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @xianc78 Dreamcast was great IMO. Maybe it was a Sega thing but having so many arcade style graphics and games on whatever engine they used was 🔥.

@LurkPerry @BowsacNoodle @noyoushutthefuckupdad I wish Sega open-sourced their Dreamcast after discontinuing it. Atari did that with the Jaguar. Even though the Dreamcast has an active homebrew community, they are limited on what they can do because they have to rely on CDs using the MIL-CD exploit, as opposed to the GD-ROMs that official games use.

@xianc78 @LurkPerry @noyoushutthefuckupdad Didn't Dreamcast allow you to burn a boot disc for playing pirated games?
@BowsacNoodle @WeissenSocken88 @xianc78 @LurkPerry @noyoushutthefuckupdad i sold an original chrono trigger snes cart on ebay to dumbasses with too much money for like 300 bux
@WeissenSocken88 @BowsacNoodle @xianc78 @LurkPerry @noyoushutthefuckupdad i had a friend that worked at circuit city in high school and for 50 bucks he get me 3 games. IDK how he did it he was a smart lad.
@BowsacNoodle @WeissenSocken88 @xianc78 @LurkPerry @noyoushutthefuckupdad Lol turns out someone else was doing it at the store and he got caught. so my friend did that for a year and half scot free.

@Jean_Philippe_Micheaux @xianc78 @BowsacNoodle @LurkPerry @WeissenSocken88 I pirated a lot of music starting with Napster. at the time I had a relative who said he and I should go into the business of selling copied CDs out of a car trunk for 5 bucks each. he was also a meth lab-owning shithead who was always in and out of jail, so I made the right decision to not join forces with him.

I have never charged money for pirated media. I'm Robin Hood, nigga.

@noyoushutthefuckupdad @BowsacNoodle @Jean_Philippe_Micheaux @LurkPerry @WeissenSocken88 You should've done it on your own. One of my biggest regrets was not making a business selling copied music CDs and DVDs that I borrow from the library.

@xianc78 @BowsacNoodle @Jean_Philippe_Micheaux @LurkPerry @WeissenSocken88 naw, I like being generous better. I don't pay for my entertainment, so I don't charge for it, either.
@noyoushutthefuckupdad @xianc78 @BowsacNoodle @LurkPerry @WeissenSocken88 I mean except for that period in high school with my friend that was not a druggie i never paid for pirated media. they were official games so ya. Other friend did sell copies of Cowboy Bebop he downloaded off a irc in 2000 though but CD-R back then were a bit pricey

@WeissenSocken88 @BowsacNoodle @LurkPerry @noyoushutthefuckupdad It was due to the MIL-CD exploit. Basically, Sega created a CD format that allows interactive content to music CDs when placed in a Dreamcast. There weren't that many MIL-CDs, but hackers realized that you can just use the game's ISO as the MIL-CD software and play pirated and homebrew games.

But it's not enough. If you look into the Dreamcast homebrew scene it's mostly 2D games or hacks of existing 3D Dreamcast games. Apparently, there is still not enough documentation on the system.

@LurkPerry @noyoushutthefuckupdad @xianc78 I don't mean to sell Nintendo short with this comment, but they only exist because mobile developers are so greedy. Part of that is Google and Apple's fault for making ad based monetization reasonable, another part is the gacha treadmill so many games get on, and still another is the lack of peers with good traditional priced games. All it will take is for a few A tier games to release a mobile version that's cross compatible and doesn't have any weird extra BS or nickle and dime micro transactions. Rocket League could release their PC version on Android and charge $20 and people would buy it. USB-C to USB port adapter and you're running an Xbox controller on there without issues. Have a few other companies do the same and before long there's no need for the Nintendo hardware existence because sizeable alt libraries exist that work on mobiles. I don't want them to fail, but I don't see what they offer besides an ecosystem.
