There should be a "Fiverr for academics" where you can spend some modest amount of money to schedule a block of time where you can ask an expert in the field with verified experience as many questions as you need. I can think of a lot of use cases where a layman might need to answer a question about science that is not easily answered by google. Kinda like how movies have science consultants to keep things plausible.
