@ImErin@freak.university @RubyHearthoof@freak.university The shelters here won't let someone adopt an intact dog, they're disgusting. It's surprisingly difficult to find one. Can't judt go around saying you want an intact dog without saying why, and so then I'm sure something would have to be made up, and at that point the only cover is for breeding stock, and at that point you're going to be looking at big money for a dog with papers, since the story wouldn't make sense if you wanted breeding stock but wanted a dog that didn't have papers.

@ImErin@freak.university @RubyHearthoof@freak.university The only way I can figure to get an intact dog without drawing attention is to somehow take a puppy from a street stray before anyone can get their hands on it, and adopt it, then get its shots and nothing else.

@Jazzy_Butts @ImErin @RubyHearthoof you aint gotta make it weird.
just adopt a cute dog normally.

shelters will obviously try to push dogs nobody wants bc muh morals but frankly, they don't have a lot of leeway to be denying potential adoptions without good reason.

@bitterblossom @ImErin@freak.university @RubyHearthoof@freak.university Really? I feel like you could get some looks and talk after you leave if you only want an intact dog and say that

@Jazzy_Butts @ImErin @RubyHearthoof see you're making it weird by saying "intact dog" in the first place.

the normal judgement factors for adopting are:
- how cute/ugly it is
- how its personality is
- size
- health
- age

because some people need friendly puppies for kids/families, and some are going out of their way to feelgood by adopting the ugly ones or the ones that have clearly suffered trauma, and some are just adopting dogs because they're used to having dogs around and going to a shelter is both cheaper and more ethical than a breeder...

unless its a trash place, you'll get a cursory background check no matter what, bc it fucks up their day and business if they give a dog to someone and it dies soon after or just gets abused or the adoptive family doesn't actually have the means to buy it the food and trips to the vet, etc.

that aside, you can always just pay attention to local social media (facebook bs) and keep an eye out for local people who have puppies they're offloading. same thing for kittens.

@bitterblossom @ImErin@freak.university @RubyHearthoof@freak.university Wait we're talking about dog boners here, if the dog doesn't have balls there's no dog boners

@Jazzy_Butts @ImErin @RubyHearthoof yeah but thats something you bring up later during the whole health discussion section.

and, frankly, most shelters tend to get to snipping the dogs and cats they take in, so you kinda have to go for a puppy or source elsewhere, since the political climate around pets right now has been that there are too many strays and breeding and the shelters can't actually afford to take in and care for all of them, so owners are heavily pressured to sterilize. non-puppies that shelters take in i think usually get sterilized after a few weeks if nobody takes em, but you'd have to check specific shelters for their own policies. And when they ask you why, don't invent bs about breeding (which requires investment and legal shenanigans) and just say you believe it's immoral and unethical to cripple animals like that (it does fuck with their hormones and emotional state, same as it does with humans).
