Now take a monkey out, and put a new monkey in with the group. It will go for the better food, but ALL THE MONKEYS WHO HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY SHOCKED WILL STOP THE NEW MONKEY. The new monkey will become averse to trying to get the better food not because it has been shocked but only from group enforcement. Continue this removal of an old monkey and replacement with a new monkey, gradually, and the monkeys will continue this enforcement of a cultural taboo, even when no original monkeys are left. They will enforce their cultural taboo, even when they have no idea why it was originally there.
