So the "fathers of anime" statted creating animations, inspired by Walt Disney, they knew that's what would sell and wanted a piece. Another interesting fact, all animation is a form of shadow puppet theater, the Japanese and other asian countries are VERY experienced in shadow puppets, they've been used in other regions as well but we're talking about asia, and they were very good at it. That skill must have been converted into traditional animation.
