Over and over again, I see "free speech maximalists" (or quasi-maximalists) and cypherpunks, and other uber-liberty types talk about how the cure or treatment for bad speech or misinformation is more free speech, etc.

One can't listen to one of these people without the nazis and white-supremacists coming up and then they talk about how these people are deplorable or shitty but the way to beat them isn't to silence them or censor them but to crush them utterly in the marketplace of ideas.

Y'know, I'm actually okay with that. I have ideas about how to deal with uber-nationalists and ethno-facists that are more human and compassionate and tolerant than any that have ever been implemented before AND still beat the holy living shit out of these people in the marketplace of ideas......

....and then these miserable fuckers will sometimes mention the pedophiles. What happens then? Nothing much. They just say, "that's not protected speech."

After saying you hate them, you'll stick up for the nazis, but you won't stick up for us. You won't even give us a chance.

What does it mean to stick up for the nazis?

It means that you're literally willing to allow the same sorts who mass murdered literally MILLIONS during the 20th century, but you won't even give the pedos a chance.

The grossest abuses of anything that even vaguely resembles a civilized and liberal society AND literally MILLIONS of the weak dead at the hands of the strong. This is what they choose to oh-so-noble-y tolerate (at great discomfort and outrage, but FOR PRINCIPLE!) and the pedos don't even get a chance to talk or advocate for themselves.

What does it mean? It means you prefer mass murder and the most toxic "chosen people//elite people" tribalism over the possibility that attraction might not be the worst thing ever.

But I think I know what it is; what's really going on.

One of the greatest absurdities of the universe is that we people evolved with consciousness and the ability to abstract and to imagine stuff. We can see our own deaths coming. We have the mental and emotional capacity to love but we can also see, probably uniquely, among the creatures of the Earth, we can see the end of it all.

We know we're gonna die.

We hate and fear this. We loathe it. And we accept it because, at least up til now, we've never been able to do anything about it.

So we create crazy rituals around death, and we shun our elderly in their old folks homes and in their hospice care. We obsess over youth because we don't like to think about what comes later. We worry about meaning in life and we can't sleep because we are suspicious that maybe nothing in the cosmos has meaning in an of itself which means that the old 70s/80s phrase; "life's a bitch, and then you die" might be all there is. Our religions are about fear of death. Our angst over life's meaning is about fear of death.

Our insane and toxic obsession about protecting children is about fear of death indirectly. Our children our our immortality projects. We groom the living shit out of them because the more they resemble us, the more of us carries on after death.

We would support nazis becuase the millions they killed weren't/wasn't US and ours. Their mass murders didn't fuck with OUR lives and our hopes to somehow transcend death.

Grooming grooming grooming! Oooh shit.

Y'know what that is? Yeah, you do. It's about a pissing match over who's going to exert influence over a human beings values and beliefs, over how they see the world and move through it. But the parents? Yeah, they've an extra and that stake is that the kid is one of those things that protects their essence from obliteration in an uncaring cosmos. If the kid grows up to be like them, then maybe they can handle death just a little easier.

They can't tolerate the idea that generations of kids might grow up more like bonobos then like chimpanzees. All the civilization they've ever known has been about coercion and control; funny, they accuse US of being the coercive tyrants and users.

They're so fucking freaked out they'll choose the nazis. At least the nazis are something known/knowable.

I also think people on here are very quick to try to report each other generally. Zoo porn is legal in the United States and generally naked animals are legal everywhere (they don't often wear cloths). There are certain breeding practices that necessitate masturbating animals (some of these practices I find cruel) so it's hard to ban "zoo porn". The United States found the best way to deal with this was to pressure payment processors to not support zoo porn sites.

Gore is generally legal in the United States as well. It may be banned in other countries, but once again it's hard to define "gore". News coverage can contain "gore". It's hard to ban all media that people find offensive, much less enforce it.

Often hard to define and people generally have an idea in their head of what it is, but it doesn't necessarily reflect any existing law. 4chan is a pretty mainstream site at this point and /gif/ is full of content that people may not like.

If someone posts something with a spoiler tag and a CW that you don't like I would just not click on it. If you don't feel like content belongs on here I think you can tell them or even discuss it publicly. I don't think you should report people to their hosting provider bc you may not like something. I don't think that behavior is conducive to the longevity of these instances.
