What the fuck happened to physical PC games?

@LukeAlmighty @LukeAlmighty they got tied to online accounts meaning they couldnt be resold physically.
@LukeAlmighty Good internet connections almost worldwide made physical storage discs as a means of distribution obsolete.

@Jens_Rasmussen
I guess, that when you connect it with the idea, that "singleplayer games are dead", then it does make sense.

@LukeAlmighty 2005-2007
DRM
Faster Internet
Incrreased VC funding for AAA
Steam + ubishit
Larger file sizes
USB + HDDS + SSDS replacing CD/DVDS
Gigabit LAN
"Modernisation"

Nothing is stopping indie and small studies selling games on pressed DVDS/BR or USB read only sticks

@LukeAlmighty the lack of physical media on pc has prevented 4k blu-ray drives from being available which really sucks. I would rather buy a drive than a player.

@beardalaxy
Be me: clueless
Buy a Blu-rey player.
Buy a Blu-rey disk
Put disk to the player.
It doesn't load.

Then, I found out, that it's encrypted, and I need to download special keys... And that it's illegal to dow load them... nice.

@beardalaxy Also, the movie has artificial film grain, so goodbye added details

@LukeAlmighty Not everyone has a blueray drive and 7 dvds to install a game hurts and a significant portion of pc players pirates and steam is a thing

@LukeAlmighty the cost of having to produce, burn, package and then distribute CDs compared is quite high compared to downloading a file off a server that pretty much everyone is using.
