I am more concerned about the question of:
Why did so many companies became unable to release a stable game?

Every single aspect of game development should have become easier in the last 3 decades. I have seen some single developers do unbelievable shit on their own in a few weeks. This should not be possible.

Just like everything else, all the money's being funneled to fund stupid shit nobody needs (DEI programs, etc); talented people being cast aside in favor of tokens; and the few people in these institutions who otherwise could naturally achieve the level of excellence to create/maintain things of good quality are being thrown into an environment where nobody knows anything and the people who could teach them either don't teach them anything or aren't even there to do so in the first place.

While greed would not be an explanation, deconstruction of dev teams to DEI trash would explain a ton.
