Also, just while we're laughing at this trend:
I remember playing the new robocop, and after a while thinking:
Is this game brutal or not? I'm not sure. I don't know if there is blood or if limbs are flying.
How is that possible? I don't even know what enemies look like. What is happening.
Then I looked at the game again, and realized I am literally shooting green blobs.
@Suiseiseki @loyhena
What do you mean?
@loyhena @davidrevoy
Can you please for 10 fucking minutes just let people live their lives and not make every good thing political?
Do you really hate open source so hard, that you need 1/2 of the population bullied out of using them?
Surprising to see Youtuber PewDiePie (110M subscribers) publishing a video last night , "I installed Linux (so should you)" with a call to his community to join the platform, underlining the fun of customisation and DIY, in opposition to all the enshitification of Windows. His main point of friction for moving was Photoshop, and he explained how he made the effort to adapt GIMP to his needs. Always good to see initiatives like that shared to large audience.

It's so funny that one of the sources of the death of gaming is gonna be graphical fidelity. I started realizing something was amiss back around 2007 or so, when I started noticing items or interactive objects (buttons, levers) being highlighted with glitter in games. When I realized they were doing this now because the worlds they were building were too cluttered for important things to stand out by their mere existence, that was a big "oh shit" moment for me. It has only gotten worse since then.
Now you see the Oblivion Remaster highlight objects when you hover over them, because otherwise how would the player know what you can grab and interact with? Even though the original game didn't have or need this.... But you get it now, because players have been trained with this crap. So goodbye actual immersion.
@ForbiddenDreamer
I hate it, but it's right
A strange effect of living in a single room apartment...
When I am cooking, cutting the onions is no problem. I know how to do it, it takes 10s. DONE.
but hours later, when I go to sleep, I start crying. This happens on the days, when I'm cooking with onions.
Do, somehow the onion spray gets on my pillow or just stays in the air 50cm above the ground, and even hours after the cooking still manages to hit me
@kerosene
For example, I am playing Cyberpunk 2077 right now, and this is what I see: The game is briliant when it comes to visuals, when you can actually see them clearly, but this is the other side of the game.
I would ask you what story the environment tells, but much better question is: How many walls can you recognize
@kerosene
Environmental storytelling requires you to see the environment Or, to stop and look at it.
And sadly, modern games "graphics quality" is rated on "noise per pixel" bases, so good luck telling a story :D
(BTW, I LOVE this picture)
@kerosene
BTW, I love deeper lore, but I just don't feel like stopping the entire game to read. On the other hand, I find it just ridiculous, when I think, that all the games would have to do for me would actually read the fucking text.
For instance, I still remember listening to the entire Mass Effect codex.
At least let me run it through Microsoft Sam.
@kerosene
Fallout 1 and 2 are seriously a different case, since there the text is the entire game.
Nah, I meant mails and books that lie in an open slop games.
The saying "this is the worst, that AI is ever going to be" didn't age well considering, that developers are now purpusefully mutilating data sets as well as putting on artificial filters.
And this is not an artificial surface level problem, that can be just ignored. Because think of cars for example. Old cars used to be 100 times more reliable. How is it possible? Because noone cares to create the cars the same way. They couldn't even sell them. And while the technology is known, car manafacturing is a process so difficult, that you cannot just make a car from scratch on your own.
Same goes for the AI. We are already entering a "smart fridge" phase, where the design decisions might be so destructive, that you are happier with the old dumb model.
Point? I with I knew. If I did, I wouldn't need to write this word vommit in the first place :D
