@Nonetrix @LukeAlmighty @massiveracist dos/windows is literally the easiest thing, same with gnu on a old machine. it's modern stuff that's complicated as fuck and breaks.

kindergarten me can have fun on the computer for days, it's not hard at all.

@Nonetrix @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz
You think I never heard this line?
How does it change anything?

Yes, I hate Microsoft, but whenever I even mention the 3 problems, all I get is Git Gud.

Well, if you do not see a problem with users having to learn what compiling a program even is, compile it, then having another session on how to give the program premmision to do it's job in the first days of use, then I guess you just love the challange.

It's not for me though. Not when I am just setting up the basics to do my job.

@Nonetrix @massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz
You are blind to the complexity of the problem.

The user elevation is not about typing sudo su, but about making sure every aplication has the rights aswell. And that is both core of Linux security as well as it's total unusability.

Same thing goes for the file system. It's not about the name, it's that when you see many different folders in root folder, it hides the true location of the files when taken to hardware level.

In windows, you choose a disk, on it are a few files from OS, but the rest is users playgroung. The opposite is true for linux user, since he has to learn, where to even find his drives...

@Nonetrix @servant_of_the_anime_avatars
Why do you people have the autistic need to point it out though, when you know exactly what I am trying to describe?

Linux is a branding disaster on level of xbox, I get it, but instead of going with the flow, it serves only to atract autistic rants.

@massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz @Nonetrix
Yes. Yes, it definitelly is.

Especially, since this is the time, when he's trying to set up the OS to make it viable for daily tasks, and most likely to quit.

@servant_of_the_anime_avatars @Nonetrix
Yes, I agree that there is "in theory" nothing wrong with the repo itself, but it holds back the entire linux project.

You will have to explain your hatred towards installers though. Having a stable version of important software saved in one place and few dumb clicks away is THE important feature for me.

@massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz @Nonetrix
The mere fact you said "you can compile it yourself", instead of "you can double click this file and press yes 10 times" is the reason why most people will never see Linux as a useful OS.

@massiveracist@neckbeard.xyz @Nonetrix
I know how hard the linux is for average user, It's too hard for me aswell.

But the worst parts of linux fit into 3 categories:
APP Stores
User elevation
Fyle system not having a standard disk:\folders structure.

And while most people do understand problems in 2nd and 3rd example, The app stores make linux look like a closed up toys. I know this is about perception, but I hope you get my point.

@Nonetrix
And you think this is a good thing?

This thing behaves exactly as the hated google app store, and is the opposite of what user sees as freedom.

What's so wrong with installers?

@1iceloops123 @crunklord420 I use Galaxy M21.

Battery is great, and seems strong enough for most uses... but the unusual screen ratio causes problems when playing videos and it is not supported for Ubuntu touch...

@1iceloops123 @crunklord420 The phones are just ridiculous.

Half the shit isn't even written anywhere. for instance, I bought a Honor, and the touch screen lost all of it's sensitivity after 6 months. How should I have known that?

I DON'T EVEN REALLY WANT A NEW PHONE BUT MY BATTERY IS CRIPPLED AND MY ANDROID IS SO OLD THAT SOME APPS WON'T INSTALL!!!!!!

Android could have been great but telcos and manufacturers fucked everything up. I hate phones so much.

Star Trek

Seems the licensees walked out of "Strange new worlds" meetings.
Netflix bailed, and Paramount+ is left to pay for the whole thing, which is why it will be only 8 episodes for the first season, which is half of what STD got.

What was promised to be a return to norm, is another Kurtzman-Trek™ dumpster fire.

Thankfully no new movies will be greenlit with Bad Robot / Secret Hideout.

It took a long time, but finally, Kurtzman and JJ's production companies are slowly but surely becoming radioactive.

Strange new worlds is set to be a low budget production, reusing as many assets as they can from STD and Picard.

Speaking of, licensees, including toy makers, turned down STD season 4 and Picard season 2.
Nothing was learned, nothing changed.

Needless to say, the recently re-merged ViacomCBS, neck-deep in debt, and teetering on the verge of bankruptcy, is not happy with these developments.
