Is their actual target audience 50 year olds? It's a common practice in advertising to match actors to the target audience, and in this case, it would completely explain, why they don't give a fuck about the backlash from the young...

It does seem stupid, but boomers didn't grow the disgust from microtransactions yes, so it would make sense to try catching them. But why DC then?
