People really do have a movie-like concept of historical events. Strange to me.

@shebang I wonder how many people on either side saw the threat as they were coming. There are so many people clamouring for censorship because they think the ideas are so dangerous they will radicalise people .. and when you believe that, you are basically saying people are too stupid to make up their own ideas and that you are smarter for them.

Censorship is authoritarian. Telling people they have to close their businesses, give up their income and livelihood in order to protect everyone from an invisible threat is Communism. Printing paper money to help some of them and deny others is Socialism.

But no one sees it that way. Burn the books.

There’s a whole host of reasons why Leftists despise Machiavelli and it has to do with the advises he gives to rulers in “The Prince”. Among them :

The ruler must exercise restraint in the use of his political power
Distrust mercenaries even those who can be used as “ useful idiots”
Disregard advisors and politicians when their policy suggestions put the ruler at odds with the population
Drop alliances and agreements when they no longer serve their original purpose
Be wary of liberal/welfare policies and only use them if extremely necessary

If that doesn’t sound anti progressive, I don’t know what does.
