@LukeAlmighty @albi to nepopírám, statisticky samořiditelná auta způsobí jistě řádově méně chyb než člověk.. spíš mi jde o to, jak se vývoj IT přibližuje těm organickým procesorům.. už nejde o 100% kontrolu a předvídatelnost (determinismus), ale spíš o "zřejmě to funguje", čili o 99,99% spolehlivost..

nicméně, popravdě ten stav "zřejmě to funguje" už máme dávno, a to i ve světě současných CPU.. i ty CPU čas od času udělají chybu, jen se to obvykle přejde nebo opraví.. s rostoucí teplotou dělají víc chyb, známá věc..

vidím to třeba na mikrokontroléru co mám v kávovaru.. funguje měsíc bez problému a najednou se zblázní (na vině je indukce / rušení).. je to tak zřídka, že to nehodlám řešit, nicméně mě fascinuje, _jak_ se to zblázní.. třeba čerpadlo začne samo vypínat po dvou sekundách, ačkoli nic takového v programu není.. ostatní tlačítka kupodivu fungují normálně, takže to lze přepnout do standby a online a zkusit znovu - a opět to čerpá jenom dvě sekundy.. k jakému poškození programu tam došlo fakt nevím, ale chová se to jak ta AI..

Being on a plane can be rather boring and I didn’t have a good movie to watch, so my mind started to wander. Then I remembered that thread with @icedquinn and @realcaseyrollins (and maybe others, I don’t remember) where they discussed someone comparing dying from C00F to picking poisoned skittles out of a bag

I know this metaphor is entirely incorrect for a great plethora of reasons, yet my brain came up with a bit related but different thought experiment

Imagine for a second, that after a scientific breakthrough the cure for aging was discovered. You are presented with a pill. If you take it, there is a 50% chance you stop aging and remain at your current condition, quite possibly for eternity. Accidents and diseases can still kill you, but other than that, you’re in for a long long ride.
The catch is, in the other 50% you die that instance and shit your pants in the process (just for lulz )

Would you take this pill? Disregard the possibility of more breakthroughs that can decrease this little negative side effect. You have to make this choice here and now.

While at this, what would be the maximum acceptable for you risk of instant death in a thought experiment like this? If you say zero, you are a pussy.
