one common practice you see among creative professionals is the use of references.

in drawing, you use photos or real-life objects to copy features from.

in music production, you use reference tracks from other producers whose sound you want to copy.

when i try to do that, it sort of kills the fun of it. it's effective but it feels like stealing.

it's something the professionals do because copying successful recipes makes them more likely to succeed, since they're meeting market demands.

it reminds me of various practices that are used by professional computer programmers. it improves the software, but it makes the job less fun.

I spent a lot of time in Japan, been to 46 of the 47 prefectures, and Whites in the west have no concept of how bad it has become in the past decade. So many blacks and Middle Easterns, and not just Osaka and Tokyo. It's so bad that Japan instituted a nation-wide campaign to promote Halal food and Halal licensing because they're bringing in infinity Muslims. Not uncommon to see herds of hijabs and the odd burka. Loads of Nigerians all running scams and selling knockoffs. So sad.

It only JUST sank in that I’m an adult man and there’s an Indianan Jones movie coming out, where an 80 year old harrison ford is trying to run around and swaschbuckle as he goes back in time to fight nazis.

Just take a moment and imagine telling somebody that in the year 2000, it’s utterly ridiculous.
