Commercial Art is very lucrative, but most commercial artists never went to university. They usually just started self teaching art ( there's ton of available material online ) and just practice, practice, practice, went to conventions, got their portfolios reviewed, applied whatever critique they received, etc. Funny enough, commercial art is insanely meritocratic AF.

⚠️ Hi fediverse, I need advice ⚠️

I am 25, and I have been working for only an year.
I have noticed that a lot of people in company I am working at are spending a lot of time thinking about their "carier progression". It seems seriously almost inconsievable to me.
I came from a poor background, and I was always told, that job has to keep you alive and not to ruin my life. So, when I have an easy job that pays A TON, I have to wander, why do these people keep talking about "progression". I am learning more every single day, so the progression seems almost inevitable.

Am I missing something, or could this be caused simply by the fact, that I am in the engineering part of company, where merit is still more important then politics? Or is this just my libertarian meritocratic bias, and I am stupid for not thinking about "progression" constantly?
