@johnnyappleseed @hydramacready @sickburnbro @Nirty_Digger @Frosche @Shadowman311 It never helps that they’re too selfish to teach effectively. Most of the con parenting I’ve seen has been too authoritarian, not really patient enough to lay out the big picture, the hows, the why’s, it comes off as “well you think like me because it’s our team, and their team is dumb”.
It’s not the most resilient messaging when they carry around a portal telling them the same thing with slick adverts from nike, the govt, all promising that their parents will be mocked forever and they can join the real good guys!
@Rwoeidk @hydramacready What’s funny is that we look down on guys who even mention that “he said I couldn’t do it, well here I am mr hansen, you dipshit!” for living in the past, but the lady ones are constantly trying to tell you about this erin brockevich life they’ve been living. Just don’t ask who paid for their school or how they got a job right out of college at a top 5 company reporting directly to C level management for apprenticeship
@Rwoeidk @hydramacready Gotta read past what they’re saying, too. I have this a lot with the chick pilots where they talk it up as if every step of their job hunt had some man who refused to let them touch a yoke until they proved they “got what it takes” (which they usually don’t), when in actuality it’s people looking out for them who notice that they don’t see the work, or the stress, or the lack of relationships that come from being a pilot…..the girl is just looking forward to the travel, beaches, food, selfies instead.
@Ghislaine @Frosche @hydramacready @Nirty_Digger @Shadowman311 “why isn’t this fulfilling? Wasn’t my dad working all the time because he loved it? Why would he spend so much time on something so draining, and unenjoyable?”
(she gets close to a brief moment of understanding before the wine and SSRI haze obscures the lighthouse in her mind once again)
“I’m probably just bored……I should have an affair with that young colored boy working in shipping. He’s probably has drugs I could try….”
@Ghislaine @Frosche @hydramacready @Nirty_Digger @Shadowman311 When women complain to me my first sarcastic remark is usually “ooooh you know there’s a prescription for that” because after a while I realized it’s where they all end up there anyway. Aunts, girlfriends, cousins, coworkers, they never fix the root but mention after a few weeks that “I think I can feel it working!”
Call me koookoo man banana-pants, I’d rather people just do straight narcotics instead of that SSRI shit. The longshoremen are blasted on it all day long and you don’t see them shooting up supermarkets or putting babies in microwaves
@Frosche @hydramacready @Nirty_Digger @Shadowman311 “they told women that they could only find fulfillment as a wife and mother”
huh…..let me fact check that now that we have 40 years of doing things YOUR utopian way. Huh, women are viciously miserable. Who knew their “highest calling” wasn’t working customer service for T-mobile?
@Ottovonshitpost @ThatGuyBosch @Dingodile @Frosche @Nirty_Digger @Shadowman311 @hydramacready HA! I do have it:
@hydramacready @Nirty_Digger @Frosche @Shadowman311 I have to say that way too often to people, they’re so shocked that their families will abandon social mores but you’ll open up the hood and find they got a good 10+ years of religious bedrock instilled in their brain, if not more, that they just ignored with their kids because “eh, I turned out alright I haven’t gone to church in years!”
I see it a LOT with the ones who rely on subtle guilt to halt bad behaviors, like preventing alco or hard drug use. They just assume their kids, raised completely outside of such lessons, will naturally inherit that same programming without it ever being said.
@Shadowman311 I don’t think so, it sounds like your classic old, disinvolved parent who thinks he’ll scare his never-parented child into shape by kicking him out of the house at 18. Because THAT will snap him out of all that millennial bullshit!
Guys like him LOVE doing the big, dramatic, TOUGH® gesture because it’s far easier than spending 20 years of thankless, grinding work being a father. Decades of inaction and ineptitude on his part are forgiven in his mind because “I DID THE HARD CHOICE”
These same people omit all their responsibility, acting like “you can’t change ‘em, they come out how they come out!” but they lived their whole life a stranger to their sons under their own roof, leaving him to bear the full brunt of modernity with, at best, a monthly check in when they awkwardly happened to feed in the same room together. Little surprise the child that parents itself ends up lost….leave it to the most selfish fuck in the funny pages to undo years of personal failure with one simple, short moment of callousness.
I’ve seen this pattern. They LOVE thinking that the big gesture will fix things, that all they need is to kick their teen son out of the house and he’ll somehow become just like they were in their teens (you know, in the 70’s, in a 7-child family that always went to church) because their kid is forced to sink or swim. They’re genuinely surprised when the captivity-bred, untrained child sinks.
