Sure, it makes no biological sense. But if they insist on rebranding mermaids, as fictional creatures, into being black skinned for whatever magical reason, I could try to give them the benefit of the doubt. But they need to actually be consistent about this, and I doubt they will be.

It's not unreasonable, you can see aquatic creatures having darker shades to blend in with the dark surroundings. But the issue is, it's kinda hard to argue this for Ariel, when her tail is a bright, iridescent green. I honestly considered this myself. Sun protection isn't by far the only reason why an animal would adopt darker colors. But the camouflage argument drops the second you realize Ariel is as inconspicuous as a peacock.
@alyx @LukeAlmighty Yeah, arguing about biology here seem pretty useless to me.
@alyx I don't think that's necessary. Wasn't there like a black mermaid alongside Ariel in some Disney cartoon?
@matrix
Honestly don't remember.
@matrix
Now I'm wondering if they've changed her name too.
@alyx probably not

More important question is, where the fuck did she get exposed to SO MUCH SUNLIGHT OVER GENERATIONS, that she needed her skin to darken.
