Here it was optional in theory, mandatory in practice. And it wasn't a "learn about religions thing". It's full blown Ortodox Christian indoctrination.

Orthodox confession is even creepier imo. You're supposed to kneel by the priest and he'll put a piece of decorative cloth over your head that is part of their normal attire.

I'm not gonna lie, looking back to those days, it's pretty cool I had a chance to experience Super Mario Bros on a CRT TV when other people from other countries probably didn't.

I'm fairly confident this was the NES bootleg I got to play at a friend's house. I know he had Mario, some Batman game, Castlevania, Punch Out, some golfing game, he even had ET.
Basically, when you were playing Gamecube, this was the best console I had access to. Compared to it, PC games were better.
And thing is, it wasn't even just a poorsville problem, you couldn't find a store that sold legit games or consoles in my town for a long time. This was THE console you could find.

You're still old enough that you're still likely to have been exposed to original Doom in some other way along the road. I'm thinking about people who were born about when Crysis 1 came out.

I can't help but wonder what today's youth, that clearly didn't grow up with original Doom, think about these memes. Do they even understand them at all?
