I think it's a matter of me developing stronger feelings towards things near to me or that threaten things near to me. And I think that's gonna be the case for most people.

On an purely logical, intellectual basis, I have no qualms on calling CCP hundreds of times worse than Google.
But on an emotional basis, I simply don't feel as threatened by the CCP as I do by Google. As such, any emotions I develop concerning the two will be stronger towards the one that I feel hits closer to me.

It's like how we know poverty in Africa is awful, but we're generally more concerned about the minimal wage in our own countries. People just get more involved emotionally towards things that are closer.

@antisophon@mk.absturztau.be @thor
Of course. But my question is does CCP have a bigger influence over my country than Google? Cause if it doesn't (and I don't really see how it could) then it makes sense that my hate would be stronger for Google, as they pose a greater risk to me.

@thor
Europe has always had major influence on world affairs. But that's not the issue. What I think EU is trying to do is build an empire, by erasing all national identities that form it, and basically forcing it's citizens to conform to a new one. Basically what the CCP is doing to the Uyghurs.

@antisophon@mk.absturztau.be @thor
I would say yes, but also no.
Yes in that, yes forever fuck the CCP for how tyrannical they are, but also no in that I don't think the CCP has a bigger influence in my life, my nation or it's culture than Google.

You already have the equivalent service from Nvidia & Sony, so in a way it's still there.

@thor
Because EU is actively feeling threatened by their power. IMO EU is trying to be the 4th Reich, while pretending it's not trying to be the 4th Reich.

Don't know if Microsoft was ever "adorable". Don't remember anyone ever seeing them as anything different than a greedy corporation, and any attempts they did to appeal to the youth was laughed at.

While Microsoft's image is forever linked with the suit wearing serious businessman, Google's image was generally the youthful one.

But, for me at least, Google has transformed from the cool young guy, to a ideologue zealot.
While the mature Microsoft has remained the same greedy corporate man, that is probably more interested in money than ideology. That's how I see it anyway, and it makes me now trust Microsoft more than Google.

@thor
They are far worse than Microsoft. That's the weird thing. I've been using Bing for years now, and lately it's better and better when compared to Google Search. And I suspect this is mostly because Google has been getting worse.

Google, Twitter, Facebook, they all somehow see themselves as the shepherds of humanity, in a very dystopian Big Daddy fashion. But they're also very bad at it. I think your average state government might actually be more efficient at doing good in the world than these 3.

@fribbledom
I'm guessing that's sarcasm, cause it was inevitable. The weird thing is, I can see that this is breaking news, but somehow I have this feeling that this has already been announced months ago. That's how unsurprising it is to me.

@thor
I think there's something fucked up with their internal culture that basically stifles people. Can't explain it otherwise. We already know political correctness and general far left politics is very strong in there, but I suspect it might be far worse than we can imagine, and it's what prevents them from being productive.

@Terry
I've said this from the start, my opinion is that the longer this war goes on, the bigger the chances Russia will end up winning.

Russia simply has more manpower to throw at this. And unlike Ukraine, it's not like Russians are able to flee the country to avoid being drafted. Not a lot of places they could run to that wouldn't send them back to Russia.

As a Romanian, I might hate the ruskies, but I'm not gonna deny reality just because it would be so fucking sweet to envision Russia's complete downfall.

Joe Cuckhold: "liking how different women look is the same as having sex with another person".

Funny enough, the only other ideology I know of that states even looking at another women lustfully is still cheating is Christianity (at least that's how I've been taught).

@Terry
Not sure what this guy is trying to imply. From those numbers it look's like Russia could keep fighting this war for a long time.
