Depends on how you define "engineered".
If you're like Thunderf00t, that pretends the only way to mess with viruses is CRISPR, then the evidence so far seems to be still that it hasn't been engineered that way.

The issue is, there are other ways to do gain-of-function, and change viruses. Easiest being, just let it replicate a bunch, while in the presence of all sorts of tissue from various animals. This wouldn't leave any clear sign of engineering, like CRISPR.

Yeah, the seed stuff is quite fascinating sometimes. Apparently some guys managed to find seeds that are unbeatable (in older versions of Minecraft) because all the End portals get overwritten during world generation by ocean monuments.

@mushroom_soup My guess: Badly made "smart" ecosystem that has the washing machine constantly ping the servers so that the companion app can easily connect to it and receive notifications from the washing machine.

Even if LG wanted to spy on your washing habits and sell data to advertisers, there simply isn't 3.6GB of data being created when you wash your dirty socks.

What if I told you, one of Georgescu's close allies was found to have called the Russian embassy and tried to contact a Russian military official?
We still don't have the full picture of what was the Russian interference during the 2024 elections, but slowly it starts looking plausible that there's something up with Georgescu and Russia.
We might end up being the exception to the "rule" of "any mention of Russia is propaganda lies from the mainstream".

The thing is, we legit don't know if it was justified or not. The public wasn't given enough evidence to make a judgement on whether Russia's influence had an effect or not.

Though, there is another reason why some measure might have been necessary either way. Georgescu has undoubtedly committed campaign finance violations, as he has reported that he spend $0 on his campaign. Declaring something like that in official documents is so outrageous that you don't really need any evidence to know he committed fraud. I don't know what the appropriate response to something like that could be, but I don't think letting someone win in these conditions is right either.
