In other news, I just thought of an idea for one of these media review sites. Because brigading and generally poor thought out reviews usually come with either a 1 or 10
attached, just ignore these reviews when doing the average. Only add in those reviews to the average when the 2
or 9
ratings exceed a certain proportion.
If a movie has a large proportion of 9 ratings, then it's likely good, so the 10
reviews are likely legitimate too, so they should be included in the average. But say it has a large proportion of 5-6
, barely any 9
, and more 10
than all the others combined, you know that's gonna be brigading, and because they're not representative of the product, you shouldn't include them when doing the final score.
Looking at IMDB Snow Shite ratings... 1.5... damn...
But that's a lot of 1 spamming, so I though I'd do the math while completely ignoring ALL 1
. You still get a 6.2 rating, which is usually awful for IMDB. And if you really want to get rid of all brigading, you probably need to eliminate the 10
ratings too, and that gets you a score of 4.6.
So however you look at it, bad movie is bad.
So Vivaldi partnered up with Proton, and integrated their VPN in the browser. Not really something I normally feel the need to use, but I decided to give their free VPN a try since it's right there.
I'm not seeing an immediate speed impact, which is surprising considering I'm not paying anything, and a VPN inherently adds overhead. There's probably just a small amount of latency that isn't that noticeable while browsing.
I tried out Google Maps, Bing Maps, and OpenStreetMap to see where they think I am now. Neither of them can get an exact location, but some pick a vague default location. Google thinks I'm somewhere in India for some reason. Bing thinks I'm in the Netherlands, which makes sense, cause that's the free server ProtonVPN assigned me to. OSM has simply no clue, and just opens up the map wherever I was last looking.
Found a small forum that apparently just hates VPNs. Otherwise... yeah, it does what it says.
Just another random person passing by.
