watching this video atm. finding out that scott cawthon worked at dollar general up until FNAF is insane. i work at dollar tree, currently building my game. not that it's going to be as big as FNAF, no way. but it's just interesting to see that similarity.

@beardalaxy I think the person who made Stardew Valley was working part-time at a movie theater, but he was also leeching off of his wife.

@xianc78 @beardalaxy
In his case it would turn out to be more his wife investing in his work and it paying off. "Leeching" is more applicable for the kind of indie dev that never actually finishes their shit.

@beardalaxy @ArdainianRight Now that you put it that way, it applies more to someone like Chris Chan whose work will never be profitable.

@xianc78 i wouldn't say he leeched off of her. she was incredibly supportive of him and only had to be for a few years. she's not being "leeched off of" much now, is she? stardew valley is incredibly successful and the man put in the hours to make it happen.

@beardalaxy @xianc78 i thought he lived off savings. i saw that photo he posted of his work desk and its just like a jumble of phonebooks.

silver spook wrote his game on a potato laptop in the back of his car

@icedquinn @xianc78 at least the wikipedia entry says that his wife (then girlfriend) worked two jobs while he was working on the game and ushering.

@icedquinn @xianc78 my best friend's wife was a single mom who paid for their apartment mostly by herself while he was going through school. now he's a pharmacist and makes bank so she gets to be a stay at home mom.

relationships can be rocky at times, but trusting in each other and making sacrifices usually turns out pretty well and keeps the relationship strong.

@beardalaxy @xianc78 taraban had a video about that. he was relating getting them super high class boyfriends to trying to work for a company. you have to show up before the company makes it big to get equity; otherwise you're just gonna get salary.
@beardalaxy one of the palworld devs was a guy working at a 7/11 they frequented

@Soma yeah i heard about that lol, wasn't he like a kid too? that's what i heard but idk how much gets lost in the grapevine.

@LukeAlmighty not trying to toot my own horn or anything, especially because said horn is only halfway owned by me, but there's probably enough stuff there for that. if someone actually wanted to, they could probably make quite a few videos on some of the lore here and there, explaining it and theorizing about it. between me and my other writer we have a lot of cool stuff going on.
