DOOM: The Dark Ages apparently REQUIRES raytracing to be turned on in some form at all times which results in a massive loss in performance, notably on lower end cards.
The game barely looks better than 2016.
I fucking hate the raytracing antichrist.

@beardalaxy I used to think back in the days of Titan XP and GTX 1080ti that in the future all games that we're playing will always be 60FPS and in 4K even with a mid tier card. Oh how wrong I was.

@MK2boogaloo i had a 1060 6gb that i was playing doom 2016 on at high settings, 4k60fps. it was fucking awesome. they optimized the hell out of that engine, pun intended. so to see it just get bogged down by forced ray tracing is really shitty.

@beardalaxy @MK2boogaloo Technically not the same engine, doom 2016 was idtech6 while dark ages is, iirc, idtech8.

@MK2boogaloo @beardalaxy this is the only cdda picture I have on my pc it doesn't look like much anyway
@pernia @beardalaxy @MK2boogaloo it's looked like that for a decade. in fact enough time has passed for some of the tilesets featured in upstream to get removed (obsolete/license issues)

@MK2boogaloo @beardalaxy
You think you were retarded? I thought all AAA games would have breathtaking physics, that will put The force unleashed and original Crysis to shame.

@beardalaxy Hopefully, like with doom and doom eternal, the devs release an update that improves performance later down the line.

@beardalaxy Still remember when the permanent removal of denuvo significantly increased the performance of eternal

@beardalaxy some for oblivion remake. I'm glad I pirated it

@beardalaxy@gameliberty.club blows my mind that they think forced framerate-killing grafics is what people want from an action series known for its speed
