no voice acting for a game in quite literally the most profitable media franchise of all time (pokemon) is absolutely fucking braindead insane. how do people keep buying this shit?
@inTrax a rejection of AAA game dev mentality would be to make the game look "bad" or "basic" but make sure it is highly polished and well optimized. this game is... not that. it's just bad. it really looks like an upscaled 3DS game in an emulator.
@inTrax okay maybe not that bad, maybe like upscaled ps2 game in an emulator.
@intrax @beardalaxy Just did some checking, and if you believe the Bureau of Lying Statistics, which you shouldn't, one game, Resident Evil: Revelations was per Brave AI noted to have a high price close to an inflation adjusted $70 price, $50 back then. Looks like normal prices were more like $20-$30, the second installment of Senran Kagura going for the latter.
One of the nastier effects of inflation, the psychological one of "it's not worth that much" even if true inflation means they're about the same, which could be true of $30 dollar games back then.
@beardalaxy
Bruh, be careful. They added 7 grass straws on one lawn. The Switch 2 might explode soon.
@beardalaxy I call it the Marvel effect
@beardalaxy Voice acting means sacrificing the ability to name your character unless you have a pre-set list of common names or just have people refer to you by second-person pronouns.
@xianc78 there are tons of ways around this. they could have even done the bare minimum like what the zelda games do, having the characters make a sound at the beginning of their dialogue. instead, you get THIS.
@beardalaxy Okay that is just straight-up laziness. They could've just included one song with lyrics and still have the entire game's dialogue be in text. Or they can just axe the signer and just have an instrumental band.
@xianc78 if you look at all the nintendo games made in-house when the characters talk or sing or whatever else, there is very obviously a large difference in quality there despite nintendo games not using full voice acting.
@beardalaxy It usually gets in the way, in my experience. I can not be arsed to wait for them to speak; I simply read the subtitles and then press A to continue. The obvious exception is if it’s a cute girl voice, of course.
@frost that's fair as a personal preference, but i still think there needs to at least be some text sounds or the character needs to make some sort of vocalization in a 3D game from a monolithic franchise. in this game it's just pure silence while the characters' lips move. it feels really undercooked.
these devs seriously think they are still building games for the 3ds
