US Immigration Politics
@shadowhawx @jorama I wish we didn't have such a huge problem with illegal immigration where this could even be something that is imaginable.
I live in an area with a very large amount of illegal immigrants, and it creates a lot of friction in businesses and schools because they cannot speak enough English to communicate basic concepts. They are treated quite unfairly by employers, or they need to get involved in more crime to make money under the table which puts them and their families at further risk. As far as schooling goes, you can't really learn if the language being spoken is something you don't understand. There are English learning programs, but there is only so much that can be done so fast in formative years for a country that already lacks the infrastructure to teach our own children adequately.
Of course, none of this justifies kidnapping anyone under just a feeling that they might be illegal, but when it is such a large issue there will be people who are caught in the crossfire and you can only hope that they know they are here legally, can prove it, and will be let go in a timely manner (if they can sue, that's great as well because it is what keeps our enforcement honest). Some of these arrests/detainments of legal citizens do have more complications, such as obstruction of justice, assault, or aiding and abetting, so it is important to try gathering that information before making a judgement call.
Unfortunately, arresting citizens and even deporting them is nothing new (as it has been happening since ICE was founded in 2003 by way of under 0.1% of arrests), and I think that it will unfortunately continue as long as we still need government agencies arresting people who shouldn't be here to begin with. They are causing an unnecessary strain on our social systems, housing market, culture, and being taken advantage of by companies only focused on lining their own pockets which is just a net negative for everyone but the top earners profiting off of what is borderline blackmailed slave labor.
ICE is a bandaid for a much wider issue that there likely needs to be an international, joint task force invested in to stop, and we are just really not at that point yet. At the very least, the best we can do at this point is to try and get as much people out as possible and just keep our border strong, then hope we can use the eased strain on our systems to help our people because I think we can all feel how much of a struggle it is right now.
@jorama yeah we have a major problem with lawlessness right now. cops not doing anything or not being able to do anything if they don't want to lose their jobs. judges that seem to have no sense of morality and are just playing politics to try and appease the people who will keep them in office.
easiest way to tell there is a problem is that mundane items are locked behind glass at walmart and if you want to buy it you have to get an employee to open the case and walk you to the front of the store where they watch you purchase it.
@Ccruelangel cute :D
I woke up late so I started late, I couldn't think of what to draw for a while, and when I did, I ended up making it complicated so it took too long to sketch/draw, so I didn't get time to finish before I started feeling like crap and decided I needed to stop. I want to finish this at some point, but for now you'll have to put up with unshaded and uncolored. I do apologize.
And because I had it pointed out that I'm not doing it... here's a hashtag: #lolitober
