This saying is used subversively against us. It's usually used in reference to Hitler. "Learn from history so you don't do what Hitler did."
The truth is that they don't want you to learn. They want you to listen. If you learn, you'll come to understand why Hitler took the actions he did. They want to rape kids, steal land, make everyone into slaves, and have everyone be dependent on them so they can continue unchallenged.
We ought to learn from history. Even recent history... Perhaps most importantly. We should show these people and their lackeys no mercy. Every time we show mercy, it is taken advantage of. When this happens enough times, the sentiment will grow more and more sour until people can't take it anymore. That's how you get another Hitler. Accountability needs to be administered while it still can be without millions more lives lost. Maybe upwards of a billion now.

He is now taking the million and dumping it into bigger GPU clusters to make his research & network more effective.
