we live in a world where a fan created demake of silent hill 2 on the game boy is more faithful than the unreal engine 5 remake made by an entire studio.
If we want to treat video games as art, we have to stop pretending that any sort of remake or remaster will ever truly replace the original or make it obsolete. Movies and music that get remade or remastered always face an absurd amount of criticism and that sort of feverish opposition isn't present when it comes to video games. The thing that I see more often criticized is just the pricing of these things.
Bloober Team made a game that would sell, for sure. Most people don't want to play Silent Hill 2, they just like the idea of it. So, mix the idea of Silent Hill 2 with a game more people want to play (like the RE2 Remake), and you get Silent Hill 2 Remake. It's not surprising, but it is disappointing.
Korone + Sonic is such a good combo! The energy just works!
