If making software is like building a house, automated tests are the support beams keeping the thing from collapsing.

Software is inherently fragile, and as it grows it becomes a house of cards, with automated tests as the glue that holds it together.

Only a true God could create stable software without automated tests, maybe a Leonardo da Vinci 200+ IQ type, but then it's useless to anyone else who tries to use it. And I doubt such an infallible person even exists. TEST YOUR SOFTWARE, FOLKS. It's not easy, but building high quality things is never easy.
