This 12 minute documentary about Elixir is inspirational as fuck. You should watch this if you want to learn more about the tech powering Pleroma.

My takeaway: some genius imagined combining two completely different software worlds (Erlang from the 1980s and modern web development) and it works perfectly to scale websites with millions of connections cheaply and no downsides. The fact Pleroma had the foresight to develop a Fediverse backend in this is incredible. It's going with the grain instead of against it.
