Okay I have been working with GameMaker again and it's weird how they went through
>one time purchase if you want to export
to
>subscription if you want to export
back to
>one time purchase if you want to export
It's kind of good now but kind of not? They dropped "GameMaker Studio 2" even though the IDE is nearly the same, just call it "GameMaker" now, and now my Pro license doesn't count for the new vanilla "GameMaker" line. Like, okay I can still use GMS2 which they last updated in November 2023, but that will be left in the dust in a few years time, just like GMS1. But nu-GameMaker isn't even a super crazy advancement like it was for GMS1.4 to GMS2, so they literally just rebranded it to get you to fucking pay again! Fucking Opera!!! Bitches!!!
Fun to fuck around in it again but I should just use Godot or learn2code for real I guess
@arc i started learning godot a few days ago, from what i can tell it's good. no license needed.
you could always join the dark side and use rpg maker
@PurpCat @arc @beardalaxy MonoGame is great if you want a framework instead of a full-blown engine, but don't want to get into the complexity of something like SDL or SFML. The only problem is that despite being fully FOSS, it's dependent on Mono/.NET Core which is obviously Microsoft controlled. If you do use it, use it with VS Codium instead of VS Code, as VS Codium removes all the Microsoft telemetry.
