Someone should invent dumpsters that you have to pay to open (unless you own it or are the garbage man). That way, stores can still profit off of freegans.
@xianc78 i WISH there was a dumpster nearby me that i could just pay a couple dollars to open or whatever. taking bigger stuff all the way over to the dump is a massive pain in the ass.

Many people don't carry coins also, so that would require putting a credit card machine on the dumpster, which needs software.

I still see gumball machines.
@xianc78 @beardalaxy That is quite a simple mechanism that merely rotates - there is no hinge to lock in place and also no requirement for there to be some way to operate the mechanism without a coin (it's no good if it's difficult for employees to merely put garbage in a dumpster).
