Gasoline prices are close to a dollar per gallon higher than this time last year, with oil prices just shy of the highest in seven years as demand has begun to pick back up after COVID. people talk about incels, but few people recognize jobcels—people who can't get hired.

there are a lot of jobcels right now post-lockdowns who are barely able to make ends meet, potentially unable to pay their rents, faced with the prospect of eviction, and who are consistently getting rejected from jobs they've applied to. despite the claims of capital about a supposed "labor shortage" (which doesn't exist) there are many out there grinding for jobs but who aren't even being afforded the opportunity.

while an incel might be faced with being forever-alone™, jobcels are faced with potential homelessness or otherwise curse-striken to an existence of poverty. this also puts them into a catch-22 situation which further detriments their ability to find work or progress. this becomes further compacted if one has a family dependent on one's income.

poverty has an event horizon upon it where, at some point, the currents pulling one down become stronger and stronger. and as one struggles to keep one's head above water—grasping out for opportunities (even bad opportunities that barely afford a reprieve)—one is met with rejection after rejection…
