Honestly, this is a better way to fight Meta's EEE as opposed to just blocking it.

#threads is already starting to force unrelated bullshit into our notifications

Dunno who this esqueer is but whoever they are, i'm not following them, and have 0 interest in their posts. But here they are, in my notifications.

I'm not surprised of course, threads is and remains a bigger-than-birdsite-scale garbage fire, and virtually all of my posts there are telling people to join a real instance.

@BowsacNoodle A few tips from a boy who grew up in the deep country but later moved to the suburbs:

learn canning/preserving/pickling, even if you’re married and stuff, seriously just fucking learn it
raw honey has a near infinite shelf life, we have a big jar we bought almost 20 years ago *If you have the space, start a small garden, check with your local DNR or whatever to find what’s local and what grows best in your region and according to your soil and space
Learn to make cheese from spoiled milk rather than just throwing it out, not only is it easier than you think it is, it’s delicious
Make friends with beekeepers, chicken owners, dairy farmers, etc.
If your community has it, please look into community supported agriculture.
Stockpile things slowly

If my calculations are correct, food insecurity is going to spike. I’m not trying to sound like a “the end is nigh” crackpot, but the supply chain is going to change and probably not for the better. @DEERBLOOD @MuscleOrc1221 @shedinja

Minimum word counts only started appearing when public schools and test organizations could no longer teach and test basic logic and fail writing projects for a person not properly proving their thesis, no matter the word count. That would have impacted several certain demographics too negatively and the overseeing elites of the country couldn't have that. Failing a project for being too schizo, convoluted, and wordy would have impacted Jews too, who thrive on being convoluted and wordy. So schools came up with the word count as it was a good compromise on the mere appearance of sophistication of the English tongue without appearing to fail those same demographics earlier for the evil racism as well as giving a benefit to Jews, who could now easily appear intelligent to admission boards simply from faking the one hundred to two hundred unnecessary words needed to prove a point in an high school thesis paper or SAT and ACT essay section.

This is also why the analogy section for the SAT was removed in the mid-2000's. Those same demographics do poorly with analogies, and we could not give easy proof to the racists chuds of the 80's-2000's that the multicultural project of the 40's onward, at least in public primary education and in secondary education, was an utter failure.

@xianc78 >On something completely anonymous like an imageboard or textboard, you can make bad posts. People will tell you that you belong on Reddit or you should kill yourself, but you can never build a negative reputation for yourself (unless you use a name or tripcode, or make it obvious that all these posts are coming from you). Posts are judged by the content alone, and not by the user.

Agreed. I think textboards still have a chance (see how fucking huge 5ch.net is still as opposed to 8chan.moe/8kun), the problem with imageboards is the sliding issue everyone keeps bringing up, and the bots spamming CP issue that follows every damn imageboard.

There's also the sharty, but it's essentially like rdrama is in the sense it's a board that got thrown off of 4chan making their own site.

@Pawlicker Only problem is that textboards never really caught on outside of Japan and if you look at the few English language textboards out there, they have a completely different culture (stormfagging is almost non-existent). The programming textboards in particular are full of non-sense shitposts that I have absolutely no idea what is going on.

I even brought up textboards as an alternative back when hosting companies were shutting down 8chan-bunkers (and by proxy, imageboards as a whole). Nobody liked this proposal because it would mean giving up creating OC on various events. Honestly, creating and sharing images and videos anonymously, is a huge part of anonymous internet culture in the West. Just look at all these viral images and videos that nobody knows who created them. They most likely originated on 4chan or any other imageboard. That can't happen on a textboard unless there is an anonymous image/video sharing platform that people can link to.

Also, I don't think 5ch and 8chan is a good comparison. I think textboards are pretty mainstream in Japan to the point that it's basically Japanese Reddit. And I don't think you can even use 5ch without using a Japanese IP address.

Anyway, I think imageboards might still have a chance. The problem is that the newer boards want to be like 8chan or even 4chan. I think they should fit a specific niche like anime, video games, politics, etc, and we can still use the same webring solution to "federate" them. If you were on the webring, you would notice that a lot of the popular boards were on Julay which even the owner admitted was a mistake. If you get enough sites, it would be hard to take the whole webring down.

@Pawlicker Even though imageboards seem to be dying, especially after the 8kun and webring shitshow, I don't think the fediverse could ever 100% replace imageboards due to one key thing: complete anonymity.

On something completely anonymous like an imageboard or textboard, you can make bad posts. People will tell you that you belong on Reddit or you should kill yourself, but you can never build a negative reputation for yourself (unless you use a name or tripcode, or make it obvious that all these posts are coming from you). Posts are judged by the content alone, and not by the user.

On the Fediverse, even if your account isn't linked to your real identity, you still have a reputation in the community and it reflects how people will respond to you. If you make enough bad takes people will eventually ignore (or outright block/mute) you. If you want to start at a blank slate, you have to go dark and create a new account while hoping not to screw up again.

Recently, I've started using imageboards again, and I can clearly see that there are advantages to imageboards that simply can never exist on the Fediverse.

Got myself one of these for Christmas. It's nice to finally have a laptop that was actually built for Linux. Expect a review soon.

So today I decided to get a post off my chest, I don't think there will be any future art sites and the future will be federated.

Coding one is above my pay grade, but I decided to make this to hopefully influence someone out there.

To sum up the point I made in my blog post, I think there is a chance that the fedi could boom if an art gallery software used it.

Why? Look at TikTok, it got popular because a few years before, there a very similar app called "Vine" that got bought and killed by Twitter. It was so big for a while that in between Vine's death and the rise of TikTok "vine compilation" videos were big on YouTube.

There is a huge void because art sites are fucking dead and nobody wants to launch a new one because the userbase would be too neurotic. Fedi solves this.

Government Prohibitions on Raw Milk Are Ignorant and Dangerous | Artis Shepherd

Since government regulates nearly everything, it is not surprising that regulations often prohibit the sale and consumption of raw milk. Like many other regulations, these prohibitions reflect political favoritism, not health science.
