@PurpCat @GD5426 @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss The only reason why I don't feel like pseudonymous discussions won't completely go away, despite calls for it is because I'm pretty sure even normie parents don't like the idea of their children public discussing things under their real names.

@GD5426 @PurpCat @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss I think textboards have a chance. Sure, you can still easily fedpost, but CP spam isn't a thing (outside of links). They also have a different culture where it is much more laid-back and open-minded. The textboards that I have lurked have openly discouraged stormfagging, despite it not being against the rules, so fedposts are much more unlikely to occur there.

@GD5426 @dick @PurpCat @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss GameGate 2.0 seemed to have revitalize interest in imageboards (at least the video game related boards), but I don't know if activity will ever go back to 8chan levels. A lot of people seem to have given up on imageboards entirely after the original 8chan shutdown and the webring drama. If they are not on the fedi, then they are on niche forums like RPGCodex.

@PurpCat @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss I lurked Reddit a few times back in the early 2010s just to see what it's about. I rarely saw any actual discussion, and for the time, I found much better discussion on actual forums.

Also, I think Reddit is losing relevance as a hub for discussion thanks to Discord (I honestly see people hosting their communities on there these days).

@PurpCat @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss Social news sites are nothing new. Reddit is unique in that it allows you to create your own communities within the site. Sites like rDrama are no different than sites like HackerNews, SlashDot, Fark.com, or MachoSucko.

>It is literally easier to start up a competitor to literally any other social media site for this reason.

It seems exactly the same with other social media sites.

* All the Twitter competitors are just the same as the Youtube competitors: either echo-chambers for political dissidents (e.g Gab or Parler) or decentralized protocols that only techies would use, despite it being functionally no different than email.
* When it comes to Reddit-like sites, there were both Immzy and Voat which are both now defunct and suffered from the same problems as Gab and Bitchute. Otherwise, you have the Lemmy instances which turned out to be an even bigger shitshow than Mastodon.
* As for Facebook, nobody would ever use a Facebook alternative, because those sites require your IRL friends and family to join. You are better off sticking to email or setting up an SMS group chat for your friends and family.
* Tumblr seems to have a few alternatives like Pillowfort, but I don't know much about them.

@dielan @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss @coolboymew Crypto-integration is really unnecessary given that you can just post links to crypto wallets anywhere, unless they are talking about crypto ads or being able to access members-only content with it.

@dielan @RustyCrab @rher @Hoss @coolboymew Odysee is probably the closest to a viable YouTube alternative because there are a few non-political Youtubers on there unlike Bitchute where it's 90% culture war and conspiracy shit. Though their future still seems uncertain after the company behind LBRY shut down. It seems like they are now switching to a different blockchain because of it.

@ArdainianRight Sure but few go into much detail as him. Corbett has an entire podcast dedicated to solutions. Most other people say that there needs to be a "mass awakening" or that "we need to organize" without talking about what that entails and how it's going to work.

Red Ice is another outlet I listen to despite disagree with some of their views and it bothers me how they keep on saying that people need to organize and "create parallel societies" without talking about how it's going to be done.

@ArdainianRight If you just dropped your knee-jerk reaction to James Corbett, you would know that he made videos on solutions to both Blackrock and the Federal Reserve. Say what you want about him, but he is one of the few alternative media outlets that actually talks about solutions.

An excerpt from Hoppe:

Many libertarians hold the view that all that is needed to maintain a libertarian social order is the strict enforcement of the non-aggression principle (NAP). Yet... it does not hold and apply, or rather it is insufficient, when it comes to people living in close proximity to each other, as neighbors and cohabitants of the same community.

A simple example suffices to make the point. Assume a new next-door neighbor. This neighbor does not aggress against you or your property in any way, but he is a “bad” neighbor. He is littering on his own neighboring property, turning it into a garbage heap; in the open, for you to see, he engages in ritual animal slaughter, he turns his house into a “Freudenhaus,” a bordello, with clients coming and going all day and all night long; he never offers a helping hand and never keeps any promise that he has made; or he cannot or else he refuses to speak to you in your own language. Etc., etc.. Your life is turned into a nightmare. Yet you may not use violence against him, because he has not aggressed against you. What can you do? You can shun and ostracize him. But your neighbor does not care, and in any case you alone thus ‘punishing’ him makes little if any difference to him. You have to have the communal respect and authority, or you must turn to someone who does, to persuade and convince everyone or at least most of the members of your community to do likewise and make the bad neighbor a social outcast, so as to exert enough pressure on him to sell his property and leave. (So much for the libertarians who, in addition to their “live and let live” ideal also hail the motto “respect no authority!”)

The lesson? The peaceful cohabitation of neighbors and of people in regular direct contact with each other on some territory – a tranquil, convivial social order – requires also a commonality of culture... multi-culturalism, cultural heterogeneity, cannot exist in one and the same place and territory without leading to diminishing social trust, increased tension, and ultimately the call for a “strong man” and the destruction of anything resembling a libertarian social order.

And moreover: Just as a libertarian order must always be on guard against “bad” (even if non-aggressive) neighbors by means of social ostracism, ... so, and indeed even more vigilantly so, must it be guarded against neighbors who openly advocate communism, socialism, syndicalism or democracy in any shape or form. They, in thereby posing an open threat to all private property and property owners, must not only be shunned, but they must, to use a by now somewhat famous Hoppe-meme, be “physically removed,” if need be by violence, and forced to leave for other pastures. Not to do so inevitably leads to – well, communism, socialism, syndicalism or democracy and hence, the very opposite of a libertarian social order.
