umm your literally surveying a population that fills out these questionnaires by making faces with the scantron (ok, not sure if that is something still in use, but while it's dated it's literally what I saw EVERY KID in my 9th grade, so about 14, class doing when required to take a survey to this end in the late 1990s early 2000s). The point is the survey data is likely completely and utterly inaccurate in the first place.

However even if it wasn't there is no evidence to suggest that this is anything other than normal teenage behavior. Hormonal changes, etc. and the implication of the wording of the question is what leads to youth to whatever degree there is anything behind the question to answering yes when there is ZERO evidence of correlation between the two.

One is likely to be depressed, not know the cause, and associate it with their phones when asked such a question about it being the reason for their depression.

Basically there is ZERO scientific accuracy to these surveys and properly done research is EXTREMELY rare.

This reminds me of other "studies" where researchers over decades repeatedly used incarcerated populations. I think it was something like gay men who were incarcerated or something of that nature. Why use incarcerated gay men? Because gay men have been discriminated against for generations and so no non-incarcerated gay man would fill out such a survey. The obvious problem is that you then wrongly conclude all gay men are sick criminals.

@xianc78 The hard reality IMO, is that it's very hard to deprogram people who spent a decade or so online balls deep in internet bullshit, especially if they will drift from one allegiance to another as a defensive tactic.

Case in point: the reason everyone laughs at the idea of "trolls remorse" is that the same guy who mopes about how some website he used to post at is a "hate site" will use his tactics for the other side even as most of the people from said site of that era grew up and settled down.

@atomicpoet I would argue though that judging the American Revolution – or any other revolution for that matter – for the events long after it, is unfair and even bad.

You can always cherry pick and pinpoint specific periods after the revolution that supports your argument. Could be decades after, or could be today 250 years later. Anyone persistent enough can make a case for/against by picking a random time that serves the argument.

My controversial opinion:

The Americans were the bad guys during the American Revolution.

Not that the British were great—they were awful—just that the American colonists were demonstrably worse.

You see, British bankrolled the entire French & Indian War. When the Brits raised taxes on American colonists so they would pay their fair share of the costs, Americans got all hot and bothered—rebelled just so they wouldn’t pay for a war they materially already benefitted from.

And what was the end result? Americans pay more taxes now than the British ever asked from colonists.

“Oh, but we don’t have a King!”

You have something worse: an Imperial Presidency with less accountability than the British Royal Family.

So much for “freedom”!

This is like the breakfast question for young engineers...
