@TheMadPirate @icedquinn I think there is a pretty good reason why so many people would rather use self-checkout lanes. People would rather interact with a machine than someone giving out fake smiles.

@meeper It's not just the corporate world. I've seen ordinary people who are sensitive to body language. Then again, those are the people who are extremely sensitive to you being slightly mean to them.

@TheMadPirate @icedquinn Some managers are pretty laid-back depending on the job. Customers are unpredictable and will try to search for a single flaw in their service quality in order to report it to the manager/corporate so they can get a free meal or a discounted item.

@TheMadPirate @icedquinn Society expects you to act nice to anyone who isn't a complete asshole or downright evil. That includes giving out body language that implies compassion and gratitude, so you are expected to fake body language sometimes. Anyone who has ever worked in fast food or retail can tell you this.
