So it seems like the biggest concern about Facebook/Meta creating a Fediverse instance, outside of having an "eternal september" is that the instance might be used to datamine other users on the Fediverse.
As far as I know, they can only datamine public posts or private posts that include users on their instance. And even without their own instance, they can still datamine us by using old-fashion web crawlers or scrapping the APIs.

Restaurant: Joe's Burger Shack
Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Comment: very nice place, but my we saw a couple at another table ask about the menu item called "the bastard". When he did, the waiter pulled out a 9mm and shot himself in the head. My husband ordered it without asking about it and he received a large platter of various mostly cooked meats and the waiter set an hourglass on the table. he hurried and ate it all before it ran out and the servers all chanted "HE HUNGERS NO MORE".
My chicken salad was good, will eat here again.
