@xianc78 @OldM8 (Sorry I'm late to this convo lol)
I like this, it fits with my prediction/observation that high tech - especially ai - will dissolve centralized civilization as we know it. We'll probably be left to choose between techno-feudal smart cities w/ digital id (because how else will we know if you're a real human?) and more rustic libertarian small towns/vilages (w/ a few small free cities here and there) powered by self-sustaining high tech (3d-printers, exotic alt-tech, etc.) and irl interpersonal relationships.
In other words, technology will force us to return to tradition, so to speak.

Can people realize that this whole shoplifting epidemic is all a psyop? Why are governments making it legally harder to prevent shoplifting? It's to crush the brick and motor stores and force everyone to do their shopping on Amazon.

If only he lived long enough maybe I could see this happening.

Central bank propaganda. The economy does not "need" someone printing money in order to function.

Guess what Switzerland did in 1973.

There’s three empires:
Central banks
The Vatican
Corporations

The US is a resort that’s needed new paint, new carpets, some new management, maybe a new sign out front, a better security system and many other patches for 50 years. I still go to it out of nostalgia but the place is a dump now.

our society’s economies are in lock step with fossil fuel exploitation

Are you in an fantasy world? There are two fantasies going on:

Industry is not “in lock step with fossil fuel” .. all the big energy companies are making money off climate change. They’ve all pivoted for selling less efficient tech that seems “green” to get more cash. (see the documentary Planet of the Humans which goes into all the petrol needed to keep wind turbines and solar stations running .. they literally cannot operate without hydrocarbons).
that needs to change

Fossil fuel is the single reason we have the world we have today. It’s not going away any time soon. That’s a fantasy .. and if there is no anthropocentric climate change, cutting fuel forces people into poverty and struggle to heat their homes for no damn reason.

Huge idea I just came up with

So, I was thinking about housing the prototype kiosk in something like a PiCade with a hole for the USB port drilled in. I think the PiCade would probably be the best fit for the prototype because I would like the thing to be coin operated if the owner chooses to do so.

I could probably write a UI in C++ with SFML. I would like the interface to be as user friendly as possible. It should be able to browse the files on the kiosk and the files the user has in on the flash drive and the user can then exchange files that way. I will probably write the software and test it on a regular computer first before building the actual prototype.

I honestly don't know how long this will take. I have other things to balance in my life of course, but this is something I would love to do. And if someone wants to beat me to it, go right ahead, make money off of it, take all the credit. I don't care. I feel like this is something worth making and I don't care who does it.
