Ubuntu 26.10 was released today, and this is why no one is exactly why no one is using it:
"system-wide controls for disabling Ubuntu Insights data collection"
Yea, umm most people are using GNU/Linux because they DON'T like what certain other companies are doing in this regard. So why one earth would you incorporate data collection into your OS????
Linux Mint has done the exact opposite and it's far from perfect, but it's SOOOO much better than other operating systems and Ubuntu it's hard to be overly critical. Linux Mint has mostly played it safe, maybe even a bit more than need be. What they haven't done is pissed off their user base to the point where they've seen the majority of their users hop ship. Canonical in one fell swing lost half its user base to Linux Mint decades ago now.... and they've done everything they could to undermine users trust ever since.
Would I do things differently? Sure. But it's saying something when Trisquel and Linux Mint both with far fewer resources do a better job than an economically significant distributor of GNU/Linux.
@Rasterman@detroitriotcity.com dont rejoice too much. All the AAA studios that aren't Nintendo proper are using the key card bullshit for Nintendo Siwtch 2, no matter the size of the game
Koei Tecmo, Konami, Capcom, Ubisoft, Square Enix...they are ALL doing Digital-only, but through the Key Card cancer. It is a unilateral, widespread push in all gaming.
So far Nintendo proper games and Marvelous are still releasing on physical (game on cart).
"Attorneys general from the states, which include Iowa, Kansas and Arizona, filed the lawsuits independently in state courts, claiming ChatGPT is designed to be agreeable and engaging to earn the trust of users. But the chatbot reinforces delusions, encourages dangerous behavior and assists users in planning violence like mass shootings, the lawsuits claim."
Yes, but it's not a human you morons and it wasn't designed to encourage dangerous behavior or assist in acts of violence. It's an artifact of a general purpose tool that is user directed and the tool isn't necessarily designed to distinguish these things. And it is a fucking tool, not a human with intent!
If your kid is mental it's up to you to get them help. While this is PERFECTLY fine for 99.95% of youngsters that are SANE it may not be appropriate to hand them if they're MENTALLY ILL. It's like handing a kid a gun (well, probably something far less potentially dangerous really), or saw where they could potentially injure themselves, or something with a bit of risk attached. Skiing might be a great example sort of- there is anticipated risk, but of which your waiving liability that might otherwise exist for for the ski resort. We don't ban kids from skiing or hold ski resorts liable. Why the hell should companies developing AI be liable? EVEN IF THEY TARGETED YOUTH!!!! The onus is on the parents. There is no getting away from 'the internet be potentially dangerous user beware'. You can't play ignorant. It was NEVER designed for your precious baby and no one ever suggested it was designed for or geared at kids. There may be *SOME* sites or services online that are, but I'm failing to see where AI companies marketed their tools at mentally ill youngsters. That never happened.
Why don’t more people just make a successor to the #iPod?
I don’t think that there’s been a definitive #MP3 player released since the #SansaClipZip. Somebody should get on that.

I legit had this job for 2 weeks when I was 19 and got fired when I was drunk at a block party. I knew how to cut the damn potatoes, I just didn't care. Fast-forward to the present, the place was demolished and a car wash stands in it's stead.
