So why is ActivityPub bad? Why does it have to go? Well put it this way, it all comes down to one thing: posting careers.

Just like how a moderator bought SomethingAwful to keep the posting careers of the users there alive (literally somethingawful.com now takes you right to the forums and not the old comedy site LowT built that drew people to the forums unless you click it), Mastodon/Twitter users love their posting careers. It's why having your entire posting career being nuked upon a ban is such an effective punishment, as opposed to forums which would just cross your name out. And right now, if a Mastodon server goes down you can transfer many of your followers, but your posting career of tweets that won't age poorly at all is gone.

But hey. At least there's bsky with extra censorship to fight "misinfo". This is why the network protocol of bsky is so complicated, censorship has to be baked into the protocol.

@coolboymew @Pawlicker
It sounded as if Microsoft saw that the average Xbox 360 player watched Netflix, played Call of Duty (explains the whole 'realistic dog' bit) and only watched TV for sports.
At a convention gamers watch, they were targeting average bogans. Not sure if 'tone-deaf' is the appropriate term for that...

Github banned its cofounder due to bug or AI-based automation. He is back now, but for couple of hours, his account was suspended. Yet, another reason to avoid Github?

@xianc78 @menherahair exactly, it's all about remembering to have respect for nature while being thankful for stuff like electricity, internal combustion engines and things that aren't computerized too hard

@TornadoOfTerror consoles became superfluous once steam became popular. you can buy a closed system with ads, paid online service, and horrendous prices for games, or you get on steam and leave the bs behind

The last reasons to own a console were good handhelds, Nintendo originals, and exclusives in general. Xbox had none of that, and steam deck is working on obliterating those reasons too

https://soapbox.pub/blog/mostr-zaps/

Check it out and get set up to send and receive MONEY across the Fediverse for your shitposts.

This works thanks to the Mostr Bridge + Zapple Pay, an amazing result of Apple banning zaps on Damus. Who would have thought?

Never thought I'd be asking on behalf of #MutualAid, but I think this is a worthy first post.

Opal is a good friend of mine in need of financial support to keep the lights on. She offers technical services under the volatile.bz domain, covering Git, email, XMPP, Matrix, Mumble and a Tor relay.

As a co-op, she accepts donations on OpenCollective: https://opencollective.com/volatile

In future, Volatile hopes to explore Nextcloud and running a fedi instance with custom software. Funds that can be spared would help make these a reality.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please consider donating, even if it's just $5.
