@matrix@xyfdi@ZW748VSJSiwWMBLBct I really like reddit... except for most of the other people. But it had the cool side of the fedi people, that would be neat-o.
@shebang@matrix@xyfdi I like the idea of reddit, but I think it has huge problems, most of which could be fixed by federation since individuals would be running their own instances with their own rules that all interacted with eachother.
if this post didn't make sense I'm tired, meaning I am absolved from any and all criticism involving this post.
@ZW748VSJSiwWMBLBct@matrix@xyfdi No, I think you are pretty much on point. The problem with almost every one of the "legacy" centralized services is the fact they are centralized -- and inevitably corrupt.
@shebang@matrix@xyfdi Federated services fix all problems with centralized platforms, because if you don't like it on one, you can just move to another and since everything is federated you don't have to worry about losing a shitload of content.
@ZW748VSJSiwWMBLBct@matrix@xyfdi Yup, honestly at this point I consider anything centralized to be outdated, untrustworthy and ultimately useless. ActivityPub is kind of a mess I hear, but its good enough to replace the legacy systems until something better comes along. Its just a matter of getting that software out there in a useable state, which is no small ask unfortunately.
I'm... fairly confident that he has nothing to do with Lemmy or the similar projects mind you, but if you say this strategy works, I shall not question it.
@xyfdi
It's the "official" way of running Lemmy
