Instincts don't care about rationality, if you are a being competing and then there's this ugly little blob that makes NOISE (noise is bad sometimes) and gets in the way, instincts are going to say beat the fuck out of it. That's why so many fathers even today are abusive. Mothers too, the genders are not binary they are a gradient. Why do you think people used to sacrifice (immoral, wrong) so many children in pre history?
